Player of the Month: Josh Windass (Accrington Stanley)
The son of former Premier League striker Dean, Windass has been pivotal to Accrington’s early season success. The midfielder’s tricky runs are a nightmare for defenders to deal with – he has been the man fouled for both of Stanley’s penalties this season – but he is also possesses a deadly right foot. A brace against Exeter in a 4-2 win and a smart finish against Yeovil sees him end September as one of league’s top scorers. If he continues in this form, Stanley may struggle to keep hold of him when the transfer window opens in January.
Manager of the Month: John Coleman (Accrington Stanley)
The best managers are not necessarily the ones who get the best results, but the ones who get the most out of the resources available to them. Accrington are often tipped to struggle in the league with little money and low crowds. Yet they continually defy expectation and never more so than in September where they were the only league two team not to lose a game. A run of four straight victories sees them going into October in fourth place, and their only dropped points came in a 0-0 draw at Portsmouth, a club whose resources are at the other end of the League Two scale. Whether they can keep the run going remains to be seen, but as the table starts to take shape, Coleman has defied expectation to find his team heading very much in the right direction.
