Shoot’s Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Combined XI

Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in what could be one of the biggest games left in the title race this Sunday (4:30pm).

Starting with the home side, The Reds have been battling it out for their first Premier League crown the whole season.

At one point, Jurgen Klopp’s side had a 10-point lead at the top, but they have been caught by Manchester City who they now lead by just one and have played a game more than the champions.

Every game counts and Liverpool know they will more than likely need to win all of their remaining seven matches to have a chance of lifting the trophy in May.

Klopp is chasing what would be Liverpool’s first title challenge.

Meanwhile, Spurs come to Anfield after a recent dip in form. No longer are they considered title contenders themselves after collecting just one point from their last four matches.

Couple that with the recent resurgence from Manchester United and Arsenal, Tottenham are now in a real fight for a top-four finish.

Currently third, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are just four points ahead of sixth placed Chelsea with the Red Devils and Gunners sandwiched in-between.

Ahead of this crucial clash on Sunday, Shoot! has put together our very own Liverpool-Tottenham combined XI…

Do you agree with our selection? Or, which player(s) do you think we have missed out?

*The combined XI follows a traditional 4-3-3 formation and includes ALL players from either squad, regardless of whether they are injured or suspended in reality*

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker (Liverpool)

Alisson moved to the Premier League in the summer for what at the time was a world-record fee of £66.8million for a goalkeeper. He has since put in consistent performance after consistent performance and is leading the table for clean sheets this season with 17.

While Hugo Lloris has had a steady, but not a great season with Spurs, the 26-year-old Brazilian has kept nearly double the number of clean sheets as the Frenchman.

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Arguably one of the best young players in the world right now, Alexander-Arnold has made the right-back position his own this season for the Reds.

The 20-year-old has played 29 times for Liverpool this season. Possessing bags of pace and a decent delivery, he provides options down the flank to get the ball into the box.

Centre-back: Toby Alderweireld (Spurs)

Belgium international Alderweireld has been a rock at the back for Spurs this season alongside fellow international partner Jan Vertonghen.

With the North London club looking to secure their position in the top-four this season the 30-year-old, who has played 28 Premier League matches this term, will be instrumental in ensuring they don’t leak goals in their challenge.

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Arguably the best centre-back in the world right now, Van Dijk has boosted his reputation this season during Liverpool’s title challenge and was even in the FIFA Team of the Year.

The Dutchman sits second in the league for passes completed with 2,470 and he has led the back line while scoring three goals along the way.

He has dramatically improved Liverpool’s defence since signing for £75million last year and is one of the main reasons they are contenders for the Premier League title this season.

Left-back: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)

Scotland captain Robertson, who’s made the left-back spot his own at Anfield, gets the nod over Tottenham left-backs Danny Rose and Ben Davies.

Racking up eight assists and 1,926 completed passes, the 25-year-old has been instrumental in both attack and defence for Klopp’s men this season.

Midfielder: Fabinho (Liverpool)

Maybe a surprise inclusion because ever since signing from AS Monaco in the summer for a reported £39million the Brazil international has had a rollercoaster ride.

At first the 25-year-old struggled to find his feet in the Premier League but in recent months has become one of the first names on the team sheet.

Making 21 league appearances he is the definition of a modern-day holding midfielder who can make key tackles but also get the ball up field with accurate passes.

Midfielder: Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool)

The Netherlands international might not have the most goals (though he did score in their previous Premier League meeting at Wembley), most assists or most passes completed this season but he is one of Jurgen Klopp’s go-to guys.

A very consistent figure, the former Newcastle United star is a reliable performer for the Reds and adds balance to the midfield.

Midfielder: Christian Eriksen (Spurs)

Denmark international Eriksen has arguably been Spurs’ best player this season having notched up nine assists and five goals this term.

The 27-year-old has been one of Pochettino’s key men in the rebirth of Tottenham over the last few years as they look to make a push for title contenders.

But this term he will need to play a key role in the remaining matches if the North London club are to finish in the top-four.

Left forward: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Our front-three starts with the most prolific and in-form Premier League wide forward this season, Sadio Mane.

Scoring 17 goals in 29 games the Senegalese international has been a talisman on the left for Liverpool this season and is currently their star man in the title race.

Son Heung-min has also been fantastic this season for Spurs and is very unlucky that the Senegal star plays in the same position.

Striker: Harry Kane (Spurs)

Tied on 17 goals with Mane this season, the England captain has once again shown how he wasn’t a one season wonder as he continues to cement his reputation as one of the world’s best strikers.

The 25-year-old, who has 125 top-flight goals, gets in ahead of the brilliant Roberto Firmino due to his ruthlessness in front of goal.

Right forward: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

With 49 goals in 66 games, Salah has one of the most empathic goalscoring records of any forward in Premier League history.

There is no question, despite no goals in his last five league outings, that the Egypt international is still one of Klopp’s main men and has to be in in Shoot’s Select XI.
