The 2017-18 Premier League title could be wrapped up on Saturday night, as champions-elect Manchester City host arch rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium (17:30).

The Citizens, who hold a huge 16-point lead over tomorrow’s opponents and runners-up, need a victory against The Red Devils to lift their third Premier League title in seven years.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who surprisingly lost 3-0 at Anfield to Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg clash in midweek, have won their last five league outings on the bounce.

Meanwhile Jose Mourinho’s visitors, who face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the FA Cup later this month, have won their last four Premier League games, maintaining their two-point lead over fellow rivals Liverpool in third place.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

With just seven league fixtures remaining this campaign, only all three points will see City claim the 2017-18 title on Saturday night, as rivals United look to delay their neighbours’ celebrations.

Ahead of this crucial clash tomorrow, Shoot! has put together our very own Manchester City-Manchester United combined XI…

Do you agree with our selection? Or, which player(s) do you think we have missed out?

Comment below with your tactical suggestions!

*The combined XI follows a traditional 4-3-3 formation and includes ALL players from either squad, regardless of whether they are injured or suspended in reality*

Goalkeeper: David De Gea (Manchester United)

Despite Ederson having a brilliant first season at City, United’s David De Gea is simply one of the best shot stoppers in the world right now, if not, THE best.

The 27-year-old has recorded 16 clean sheets in 31 Premier League games for the visitors this season – two more shut outs than Brazilian Ederson.

Right-back: Kyle Walker (Manchester City)

At right-back is City and England full-back Kyle Walker, ahead of United’s Antonio Valencia.

The 27-year-old pacey defender has excelled at the Etihad Stadium following his move from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, in a deal worth up to £50m, providing seven assists in 44 appearances in all competitions this season.

Centre-back: Eric Bailly (Manchester United)

United’s best defender, Eric Bailly, is the first of our centre-back pairing.

The 23-year-old is still returning to full fitness after recovering from an ankle injury, having been restricted to just 10 Premier League outings this term, but he scored against Swansea City back in August.

Centre-back: Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City)

Partnering Ivory Coast international Bailly is City’s Nicolas Otamendi, who is establishing himself as one of the division’s best defenders under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola.

The 30-year-old’s future at the Etihad was in doubt before Pep’s arrival, but working with the ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has worked wonders for his career, becoming one of the first names on his teamsheet, having pitched in with five goals in 41 games overall this campaign.

Left-back: Ashley Young (Manchester United)

Despite predominantly being a winger, like fellow United full-back Antonio Valencia, England international Ashley Young is over exceeding magnificently in defence for the Old Trafford outfit.

The 32-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s surprise stars this season, with the makeshift left-back assisting six strikes and finding the back of the net twice himself in all competitions for United, frustrating defenders Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind in the pecking order back at The Theatre of Dreams.

Midfielder: Fernandinho (Manchester City)

Our ideal defensive midfielder is Brazilian Fernandinho.

The 32-year-old’s impact on the pitch cannot be underestimated, as although his name does not cover the sport back pages with bags of goals, skills and clever assists, his ball retention, recovery and defensive nous allows City’s more offensive-minded players to tear apart defences all over England as Guardiola’s men close in on the Premier League title.

Fernandinho has scored three goals and provided five assists in 42 games overall this term, too.

Midfielder: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

Surely a contender for PFA Player of the Year, Kevin De Bruyne, who is fast becoming the ‘complete’ midfielder.

The Belgian, 26, has scored 11 goals and assisted 20 further strikes this campaign to mastermind City’s Premier League title charge from the middle of the park.

Midfielder: David Silva (Manchester City)

Another midfielder relishing life at the Etihad is De Bruyne’s team mate, David Silva.

The 32-year-old has pitched in with nine goals and 14 assists in all competitions himself this season, including the opening goal against rivals United at Old Trafford back in December during the away side’s 2-1 victory.

Right forward: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Moving into our formidable front line, and we kick-off the front three with England international winger Raheem Sterling.

Despite failing to start against former club Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday night, the 23-year-old has undoubtedly enjoyed his most prolific spell in senior football, scoring 21 goals in all competitions as boss Guardiola works his magic on the Three Lions star.

Centre forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Spearheading our attack, ahead of United’s mega money signing Romelu Lukaku, is City legend Sergio Aguero.

The 29-year-old has remarkably scored 30 goals and set up seven other strikes in 37 appearances in all competitions this term, and will hope to be fit to face rivals United on Saturday, after missing the Champions League clash at Liverpool in midweek due to a knee injury.

Left forward: Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

And lastly, City winger Leroy Sane completes our front three, having come of age during his second season at the Etihad.

The Germany international, 22, has found the back of the net 13 times in all competitions this campaign, including 15 assists, to complete City’s wonderful winger options, with Sterling on the opposite flank.

Sane is fully justifying the £37m City paid Schalke back in August 2016, and is picked ahead of the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez from Old Trafford.
