Shoot!’s ultimate Bournemouth-West Ham six-a-side team

Eddie Howe’s struggling Bournemouth entertain West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday (3pm kick-off) with the hosts looking to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

The Cherries held Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last weekend to end a run of four straight league defeats, with Josh King’s penalty cancelling out Marcos Rojo’s opener to secure the visitors an important point.

And it’s a result and performance that they’ll look to build on against Slaven Bilic’s West Ham on Saturday, who themselves haven’t won any of their last three Premier League games.

The Hammers lost 2-1 at home to league leaders Chelsea on Monday night to remain 11th in the table, 11 points clear of danger, yet with the gap between themselves and seventh place Everton, the lowest possible position for a European spot this season, standing at 11 points, it looks like Bilic’s men will sit in mid-table between now and May.

Nonetheless, the East London side haven’t lost an away game in 2017, so it should be a good contest between the two sides at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

With the build-up well underway ahead of Saturday’s clash, we at Shoot! have selected our ultimate Bournemouth-West Ham six-a-side team from the current squads…

Artur Boruc

Deciding between West Ham’s Darren Randolph and Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc is far from easy, as both are excellent shot-stoppers, but both are also prone to the odd error.

So, based on his brilliance in the Cherries goal at Old Trafford last weekend, we’ve plumped for former Celtic and Southampton goalkeeper Boruc.

The former Polish international was outstanding between the sticks against Manchester United last weekend, brilliantly saving Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s penalty while denying Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial amongst others with fine stops.

Boruc is clearly a great shot-stopper, and one who just pips Randolph to this side.

Winston Reid

Bournemouth haven’t always been the best side defensively since they arrived in the Premier League in 2015, although the likes of Steve Cook and Simon Francis are excellent defenders.

Nonetheless, the experience Winston Reid has accumulated over the last seven years at West Ham has seen him become a solid and accomplished defender at Premier League level.

The New Zealand international moved to East London back in 2010 but couldn’t help the Hammers stave off relegation, yet he did help them get promoted from the Championship at the first time of asking.

Since then, the 28-year-old has made 136 top-flight appearances for the Hammers, and won their Hammer of the Year award in 2012/13.

His undoubted strength, agility, and athleticism sees him get the nod in this side.

Charlie Daniels

There aren’t many Premier League defenders who possess the energy and work-rate Bournemouth’s Charlie Daniels does.

The 30-year-old has been in excellent form for the Cherries this term, scoring three goals and laying on a further three assists in 23 Premier League starts.

Although he is not the greatest aerially, the Englishman has an eye for a pass and is very adept with the ball at his feet, but more importantly, he can affect things at both ends of the pitch, which is why he gets the nod in this side.

Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere is spending a year on loan at Bournemouth in a bid to get back to full fitness and somewhere near the level that made him the next big-thing in English football.

And he’s had a pretty decent spell on the South Coast this term.

The England international may have only registered two assists in 21 Premier League games for Howe’s men, yet his overall work in the midfield has been well received and praised by many, with his displays against Watford, Swansea, and Middlesbrough of particular note.

The ball sticks to Wilshere’s feet when he’s at his best, and he is able to see and pick a pass from anywhere in the middle, which makes him a great asset to this side.

Manuel Lanzini

When Dimitri Payet left West Ham in January, many saw Manuel Lanzini as the man to take on the responsibility of being the Hammers’ go-to man.

And he’s done reasonably well since then.

The Argentine has scored six goals and laid on two assists in the Premier League this season, but five of those contributions have come in his last seven appearances for Bilic’s side.

His supreme agility, ability to dissect defences with one pass, and unwavering confidence to take defenders on makes him a shoe-in for this side.

Michail Antonio

Andy Carroll is obviously an excellent striker, but for a six-a-side team, he’s unlikely to be as effective, which is why we’ve gone for Michail Antonio to lead the line.

Arguably West Ham’s Player of the Season so far, Englishman Michail Antonio looks set to be a key forward for the Hammers over the coming years.

The 26-year-old started the season on fire with five goals in his first four Premier League matches, and although the goal-scoring has quietened down somewhat since then, he then bagged all three assists in the 3-0 success over Crystal Palace in January.

More importantly, Antonio will always do a job for the team, be it as a wing-back, right-back, or centre forward, and it’s this versatility that would be invaluable in this six-a-side team, as he’d not only be able to lead the line, but also do his defensive duties well through his pace and strength.

He’d be an asset in this side.
