Shoot!’s ultimate West Ham-Everton five-a-side team

West Ham host Everton at the London Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off) as both sides look to climb places in the Premier League table.

Slaven Bilic’s Hammers have picked up four points from their last two matches to pull clear of the bottom three, this all after relegation looking a genuine possibility when they lost five successive league games between March and April.

However, a 1-0 success over Swansea and a 2-2 draw away at Sunderland has moved the East London outfit up to 13th in the table, and they’ll know that victory over Ronald Koeman’s Everton on Saturday could take them into the top half of the division.

Yet, it won’t be easy against a Toffees team that have won 16 of their 33 Premier League matches this season, including four of their last six.

Koeman’s men know that if they can secure the three points they will move up to fifth in the table, ahead of both Arsenal and Manchester United, and with a final day clash with Arsene Wenger’s side on the horizon, there is a great chance of Everton securing European football for next season.

So, with the build-up well underway ahead of Saturday’s crucial clash at the London Stadium, we at Shoot! have selected our ultimate West Ham-Everton five-a-side team from the players available for selection this weekend…

Joel Robles

Deciding between Everton’s Joel Robles and West Ham’s Darren Randolph is far from easy, but the former’s most consistent displays over the course of the season just about gets him the nod.

The Spaniard took over from Maarten Stekelenburg in the Toffees’ 1-0 defeat to Liverpool back in December and hasn’t relinquished the gloves since, with several solid displays against Manchester City, Crystal Palace, and Middlesbrough mixed in with some poor ones, notably against Liverpool last month.

However, Robles has been more consistent than Randolph, who made another error in West Ham’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland last week, and although both keepers have usurped the number ones at their respective clubs this term, Robles usurps Randolph for a place in our team.

Ashley Williams

Arguably the best defender at both clubs, Everton’s Ashley Williams has proven his worth to the Toffees in his first season at Goodison Park.

The Merseyside outfit spent £12 million on the 32-year-old last summer after his stellar displays at the heart of the Swansea defence, and when you look at how much the Swans have struggled defensively this season, it’s clear how big a presence he was.

And he has translated that form into the blue of Everton, with 30 Premier League starts indicative of his growing role as the senior defender in Koeman’s team, and overall importance to the Toffees side.

West Ham have some good defenders, notably Winston Reid and Jose Fonte, although the latter has made a slow start to life at the London Stadium, and thus doesn’t beat Williams to this team.

Idrissa Gueye

There aren’t many players better suited to a five-a-side team than Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

The Senegalese international, while at Aston Villa, was second to only N’Golo Kante in terms of tackles made and interceptions in last season’s Premier League, but this time round he has turned the tables on the now-Chelsea midfielder.

Gueye has made 121 tackles this season to Kante’s 110, and only trails the Frenchman by four in terms of interceptions made (68 to Kante’s 72).

Overall though, Everton’s Gueye has been brilliant in the Toffees midfield, with his relentless energy, incredible work-rate, and overall ability to break up play and launch attacks a key feature in their success this term.

That’s why he makes our team.

Manuel Lanzini

Ross Barkley has been in much improved form in recent times, but you still sense that he’s prone to losing possession in critical areas of the pitch, and is sometimes too rash if things aren’t going his way.

Thus, West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini gets the nod in this side, as the Argentine has brilliantly stepped into Dimitri Payet’s shoes since the latter’s departure from the club in January.

Lanzini has scored seven goals and laid on two assists in the Premier League this season for the Hammers, but six of those nine contributions have come in 2017 as he has become their go-to man in Payet’s absence.

He may not have directly contributed to any goals in his last four appearances, but he has still performed well in the midfield, and his technical ability and overall eye for a pass would be invaluable in this team.

Romelu Lukaku

There aren’t many better strikers in the Premier League than Everton’s Romelu Lukaku at the moment, the division’s top-scorer with 24 goals.

The Belgium international has once again proven to be one of the most deadly forwards in European football with 25 goals in all competitions, and with six assists in the league as well, he is more than just a finisher.

In fact, his tally of six assists puts him behind only Barkley in the charts this term, further underlining his capabilities as an all round forward.

Lukaku is quick, strong, composed in front of goal, and good both in the air and with his feet – he is the ultimate five-a-side striker, and one you simply cannot leave out of this team.
