Southampton fans were treated to something rather spectacular at St. Mary’s on Wednesday night, as a debut goal from record signing Sofiane Boufal was enough to see them through to the quarter finals of the EFL Cup.
After a quiet first half, where only one shot on target was registered – by the visitors – the Morocco international, who arrived on the South Coast for a club record £16m from Lille over the summer, turned on the style to score one of the goals of the season on his full debut.
With 66 minutes gone, the winger showed a brilliant touch to pluck the ball out of the air, before turning and curling the ball into the far corner.

The goal caused an outpouring of delight amongst Saints fans on Twitter, delighted to see their new man finally in action, having missed the start of the season with an injury.
However, one South Coast legend stood out and reserved special praise for the no.19. High praise indeed from Le God…
