While Manuel Pellegrini’s side remain in the tie, it could be all uphill from here, meaning the Chilean may rest key man at St Mary’s with the second leg in mind. Southampton have shown in the last month their ability to make the most of a weakened side, and might sneak a win in this one too.

The Premier League title may have slipped away from Spurs, but they remain one of the country’s best sides. Southampton, despite a good run in 2016, perhaps don’t possess the ability to go toe-to-toe with a Tottenham team looking to bring their great campaign to a fittingly triumphant close at home.

Alan Pardew’s record at St Mary’s since leaving Southampton is pretty wretched, and there’s no reason why that should change here. While Palace have stumbled in the second half of the season, the Saints have established themselves comfortably in the top half – and should make the most of their visitors’ FA Cup final distraction.
