Southampton will face competition to sign out-of-favour Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, as they look to replace captain Jose Fonte.

According to reports from The Mirror, the Saints will face competition from Turkish side Galatasaray, who are also chasing the France international.

Sakho, who fell out with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp over the summer, is yet to feature for the first team this season, playing only for the development side.

Les Reed, the director of football at St. Mary’s, has made it clear that whilst the club captain has handed in a transfer request, the club will not sell unless they receive an acceptable bid.

With the Portugal international having submitted his request halfway through the season it makes finding a suitable, affordable, replacement all that harder.

With Sakho having made over fifty Premier League appearances in his career, me may be one of the only viable options this month, meaning those on the south coast will fight hard to land a deal.
