Northern Ireland’s hero in qualifying, Davis came up with a wonderful performance once again, as Michael O’Neill’s men overcame a stubborn Latvia side in Belfast.
The 30-year-old scored the only goal of the game, lifting the ball over the keeper at the second attempt, ending a seven-and-a-half year wait for a friendly victory for the hosts.
Another win for Northern Ireland has again showed that they won’t be turning up in France to be walked all over, and the captain will now be looking forward to playing in his first major tournament.
