It was Boxing Day and Southampton had picked up just one point from their previous five Premier League matches as they welcomed second-placed Arsenal to St Mary’s.

Hopes weren’t too high for the Saints faithful – that was until Martina’s incredible strike that set the hosts on their way to a 4-0 thumping of the Gunners.

Ryan Bertrand’s cross from the left was headed clear by Per Mertesacker where it reached the Curacao international, who struck a half volley with the outside of his right foot that flew into Petr Cech’s bottom right-hand corner.

Martina has only made nine top flight appearances for Ronald Koeman’s men this term, but not only does he look set to win his club’s Goal of the Season award, he is certainly in with a chance of winning the Premier League Goal of the Season award as well.
