Steven Davis (Northern Ireland)
A week that Steven Davis will never forget, as Southampton’s midfield work horse put in one of the performances of his career, scoring two goals against Greece to send Northern Ireland to their first major tournament since 1986. Captain Davis then inspired his team to top their group with a 1-1 draw away to Finland, a fixture they were unlucky not to win. The 30-year-old described the week as a “dream come true” and was overjoyed to gain qualification in front of the home fans. He said: “It’s a huge achievement for the squad and the country and there was no better place to do it in front of our fans who have pushed us all along.”
