Spurs boss jets out to Spain to scout Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add to his squad in January after failing to sign any players in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino went to watch Barcelona B at the weekend, sparking interest that he was scouting Riqui Puig, according to The Sun.

The Spurs boss is looking to strengthen his squad in January after failing to make any summer signings.

And while his current crop are away on international duty, the Argentine, who was in the city attending a conference behalf of the Catalan Football Federation, has been checking out some potential future stars.

One of those is thought to be 19-year-old Puig, who impressed with three goals and three assists in last season’s UEFA Youth League.

However, the Spaniard’s contract – which expires in 2021 – has a release clause of £88million for the north London club to get around.

The midfielder has made 12 appearances for Barca’s back-up side this term but has yet failed to make the step up to the first-team.
