Tottenham defender Jan Vertonhgen is set to be the next first team star to sign a new deal at White Hart Lane, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Belgium international is due an increase on his current £60,000-a-week deal in North London, however, any new contract will see him remain under the £100,000k-a-week barrier as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy sticks to his strict payment scheme.

The 29-year-old follows in the footsteps of teammates Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker who have all already signed on the dotted line this season.

Despite the flurry of new deals in North London, star striker Harry Kane and captain Hugo Lloris are reportedly a long way from committing their futures to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Levy’s payment scheme means that no player at the club is earning over £100,000k-a-week, unlike the top players at title rivals, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United and Man City.

This has caused the star pair, who are crucial to Spurs’ success in the coming years, to put any negotiations on ice for the rest of the season.
