Spurs switch their attention to Barkley

Spurs are set to step up their interest in Ross Barkley.

According to a report in The Independent the Everton midfielder has become a priority after Spurs opted out of continuing their interest in Wilfried Zaha.

With the Crystal Palace man declaring to play for the Ivory Coast his club side will have to go without the winger for upto six weeks every two years to cope with African Cup of Nations commitments.

Rather than pay out £40m and a top wage Spurs have decided to turn their attention to Barkley who has just over a year left on his Goodison deal.

Ronald Koeman has gone on record to say that the midfielder will be sold in the summer if he doesn’t sign up to a new contract.

There has been no sign of a breakthrough with that new deal with Spurs first linked to the 23-year-old in December.

The prospect of Champions League football and playing alongside half a dozen England team-mates is bound to appeal to Barkley who has spent his entire career with Everton.
