Stoke City assistant manager, Mark Bowen has confirmed that the club are interesting in confirming a deal for Man United defender, Phil Jones.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Red Devils from Blackburn in 2011 and went on to make 141 appearances for the side, winning the 2013 Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season at the club.

However, since the arrival of former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, the England international has seen his stock fall amongst the defensive ranks at Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Stoke Sentinal, Bowen said: “I don’t know what’s gone wrong, but he’s gone from even a player Fergie was talking about as being someone who could have been one of the greats.

“But we have a bit of reputation for bringing players like that into this set up and then thriving. Fingers crossed, something may happen.”

Jones made his way through the ranks at international level before making the move to Manchester and went on to earn his first team debut under Fabio Capello in October 2011, aged 19.
