Sunderland: The Black Cats’ BRIT Awards 2016 winner

Name: Jermain Defoe
Position: Striker

Performances and results have certainly improved for Sunderland in recent weeks, and if they are to survive in the Premier League this season, it could well be down to the goals of their veteran striker, Jermain Defoe.

The Mackems’ top goalscorer has been awarded our BRIT Award in 2016, and the club will certainly need more of those strikes over the remaining dozen fixtures if they are to preserve their top-flight status.

Sam Allardyce’s side are currently just one point from safety and with Defoe having ten league goals to his name this term – including a hat-trick in the win against fellow strugglers Swansea last month – they have a former England international who knows where the goal is.

If they can keep it tight at the back – Sunderland have conceded the joint-most goals with Norwich this term – Defoe can certainly be their hero at the other end of the pitch.
