Swansea City sign Sevilla striker Fernando Llorente on a two-year deal

01 October 2014 - Uefa Champions League - Atletico Madrid v Juventus - Fernando Llorente of Juventus holds off the challenge from Diego Godin of Madrid.

Swansea City have signed Sevilla striker Fernando Llorente for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old, who was part of the Spain squad for their 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 triumphs, will wear the number nine shirt and arrives at the Liberty Stadium having scored seven goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last season for the Spanish outfit.

Swans manager Francesco Guidolin had been desperate to sign a centre-forward this summer following the permanent departures of Eder and Alberto Paloschi, while Bafetimbi Gomis has joined Marseille on loan and Andre Ayew is still being linked with a £20 million move to West Ham United.

Llorente made his name during nine seasons with Athletic Bilbao which earned him a move to Juventus in 2013, where he spent two years before moving back to Spain with Sevilla.

Swansea finished 12th in the Premier League last term, but the signing of the Spaniard, as well as Gylfi Sigurdsson penning a new four-year deal has given them a boost before the new top-flight campaign begins next week.
