As the Swans all-but secured their Premier League status for another season, the Icelandic international took Shoot’s award as their stand out player of last month.

The Welsh side looked out of sorts in 3-0 and 4-0 defeats against Newcastle United and Leicester City, respectively, but had already moved clear of the relegation zone thanks to Sigurdsson’s contributions.

Swansea’s situation had looked perilous as they fell two goals behind at Stoke at the start of April, but the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder scored from distance to inspire a comeback – with Alberto Paloschi later netting the equaliser.

And a week later, Sigurdsson was at it again – this time grabbing the only goal of the game as the Swans defeated Chelsea to move up to the heralded 40-point mark.

That was the 26-year-old’s 11th strike of the season, and he’ll now look to take his fine form to France in the summer, where Iceland will compete in their first major international competition.
