Here at Shoot! we endeavour to keep a watchful eye over the emerging talents in world football and keep you in the know in terms of who you should be watching out for in the years to come.

Having already showcased the talents of Tottenham talent Samuel Shashoua, today we turn our attentions to fellow youngster Oliver McBurnie, who has broken onto the Premier League stage this season.

The 20-year-old Scotsman plays for Swansea City, predominately in their Under-23 side.

He has made numerous appearances for the senior side; with his most prolific match being against Peterborough United in the EFL Cup. McBurnie netted two goals and set up the other in the first-half before being substituted early in the second.

The gifted striker has been on fire this season, fronting a Swansea attack that has been prolific to say the least. An interesting contrast to the senior team’s attacking prowess.

McBurnie is becoming one of the best talents in the Premier League 2 Second Division and will be a bright star for Swansea in seasons to come.

Although someone at Swansea City should advise him on how to pull up football socks!

Shoot! reveals why McBurnie is becoming such a prolific striker…

Aerial Threat

The towering Scotsman puts his large stature to good use, scoring headed goals aplenty.

He is able to score headers with power and also headers with placement, beating the goalkeeper’s reach.

He provides a real presence in the penalty area which he has proven to cause defences problems in the Football League. His loan spell at Newport County and Bristol Rovers was key to this growing strength of his.

He has scored a few impressive goals with his head this season at Swansea, his best coming in the recent Checkatrade Trophy tie with Wolves.

This key attribute to his game will continue to bolster his success with not only the Under-23 side, but the first-team too.

Unpredictability

Being unpredictable is a tricky skill to possess, as it requires the right decision making as well as the skill to pull it off.

McBurnie is the perfect example of a young player without fear.

He will often attempt some outrageous shots and skill moves that have left those watching in awe.

During pre-season, although he confessed he isn’t the type to take a shot from range, he scored a delightful 30-yard effort and made it look easy whilst doing so.

In more recent times, the youngster almost pulled off the goal of the season against Wolves, with a bicycle kick attempt that was only denied by a strong right hand.

He is becoming a joy to watch, with Swansea fans wondering when he’ll get his first Premier League start.

Teamwork

Although McBurnie has become the star of the Under-23 side, he never lets it show on the pitch.

Constantly putting in a shift, its clear to see his talent is only improving those around him; as Swansea City’s Under-23 side have had an incredible season so far.

Although his desire is to play in the Premier League every week, he doesn’t let that hinder his relationship and work-rate for his also very talented Under-23 squad.

He will be getting more first-team appearances under new Swansea manager, Paul Clement, if he carries on in the same manner.

Teamwork is an asset that many young footballers can fall down on due to ego and arrogance, however McBurnie has it in abundance.
