These 2 Chelsea youngsters could be the next Marcus Rashford

It has been just over a year since Marcus Rashford broke onto the scene at Manchester United in that Europa League clash against Midtjylland.

The 19-year-old has never before featured in the first team for the Red Devils before profiting from an injury to Anthony Martial in the warm-up, and the English star hasn’t looked back since.

He netted twice on the night to seal United’s passage through to the last 16 of Europe’s secondary competition, and then he made his Premier League debut just three days later at home to Arsenal, where he also scored a brace to secure Louis van Gaal’s side a much-needed 3-2 victory at Old Trafford.

That Arsenal game was exactly a year ago today, and since then Rashford has netted the winner in the Manchester derby, and also made his England debut against Australia in May 2016, where he scored the opener in a 2-1 win for Roy Hodgson’s men, and indeed went to Euro 2016 with his country.

Rashford has gone from strength to strength since then and is now an important part of the United squad, so what other young players are waiting for their opportunity in the first team?

Well, we took a look at Chelsea’s pool of young talent, and identified TWO players who could be the next Rashford…

Charlie Brown

Several Chelsea players are currently out on loan at lower league or non-league clubs for valuable first team experience, but Charlie Brown is not one of those.

The 17-year-old only moved to West London last summer from Championship side Ipswich Town (above seen netting against Brentford), although has already made a big impact in the Under-18s set-up, netting ten times in 18 appearances to help the side to the top of the South Division table.

That included four in their 13-0 thumping of Brighton a few weeks ago, which is even more impressive given that he only played the last half an hour.

Clearly, Brown is one to keep an eye on over the coming years, and who knows, he may be in the first team set-up very soon indeed if he continues to bag goals for the Under-18s.

Ike Ugbo

It’s clear that striker Ike Ugbo is the next ‘big thing’ at Stamford Bridge, especially given his incredible goal-scoring record over the last few years.

The 18-year-old joined Chelsea at the age of ten and progressed through the ranks, before embarking on his first season for the youth team back in 2014/15, scoring 11 goals in 18 games.

His goal-record then got even better, netting 26 times in just 29 games the season after, as well as finding the net on nine occasions so far this term, including in the 2-0 win over Reading a few weeks ago, for the Under-23s, which is his first full campaign at that level.

Ugbo has already been recognised at international level, appearing for the England Under-17s at the European Championships back in 2015, and with a campaign of Under-23 football under his belt this term, that can only do his progression good, so don’t be surprised to see his name in and around the Chelsea first team in years to come.
