These 2 January signings would win Arsenal the Premier League title

Arsene Wenger is looking to end a 12-year wait for the Premier League title by leading his Arsenal side to the summit this season.

The Gunners last won the league in 2004 when Wenger led the side to an unbeaten league campaign, in what became known as the ‘Invincibles’ team.

And, based on what we’ve seen so far this season, there’s a chance that the Gunners can end that barren run by securing the title come May.

Wenger’s men are fourth in the table having won seven of their opening 11 Premier League matches, and are currently on a 16-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, which dates back to their 4-3 defeat at home to Liverpool on the opening weekend.

The Gunners have already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League with two games to spare, but know that they need a positive result against French champions Paris Saint-Germain next week if they want to top the group.

In the league, Arsenal visit Manchester United on Saturday looking to end a ten-year wait for a league win at Old Trafford, with Wenger’s men knowing that victory in Manchester will take them top of the division.

With January approaching, speculation has been building about who Wenger may need to sign to keep Arsenal challenging for the title until the end of the season, and here are TWO players that would help them win the Premier League…

Jose Gimenez

If recent reports are anything to go by, Arsenal could sign one of the most highly-rated defenders in world football in January.

21-year-old Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is reportedly on Arsene Wenger’s radar as he looks to shore up his Arsenal defence, and indeed provide healthy competition to first choice centre-backs Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi.

As much as German international Mustafi has done well since arriving in England during the summer, there have been a few shaky performances in recent weeks, so Wenger could look to add more defensive solidarity to his backline.

And where better to find that sort of player than at Atletico Madrid who, under Diego Simeone, are as good a defensive side as any.

With Manchester United also circling, Wenger may have to act fast in January to get his man, and it’d be a move worth pursuing if the Gunners want to win the title come May.

Daniel Sturridge

Arsenal have been lacking a prolific and proven goal-scorer at this level behind Olivier Giroud in recent years, with many seeing this as the chief reason for their failed title challenges.

However, with Daniel Sturridge struggling for game time at Liverpool, Wenger should be interested in acquiring his services in January.

The 27-year-old has yet to net in the Premier League this season, but looked sharp for England the other night against Scotland and scored a fine header in a 3-0 win for the Three Lions.

The former Chelsea man appears to be struggling to adapt to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play and, with the front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Philippe Coutinho in incredible form, it’s difficult to see him breaking into the side any time soon.

Sturridge is a proven striker at this level, and when he gets opportunities he finds the back of the net. He’s the sort of forward Arsenal have been crying out for in recent years, so Wenger should do all he can to bring him to North London in January.
