These 2 midfielders would be perfect for Everton in January

Everton were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend by Premier League champions Leicester on a weekend which saw six top-flight sides exit the competition.

The Toffees looked on course to book their place in round four when Romelu Lukaku gave them the lead just after the hour mark, but two Ahmed Musa goals within five minutes of each other sealed the victory for Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes, and their place in the last 32.

The Toffees join fellow Premier League sides West Ham, West Brom, Bournemouth, Stoke, and Swansea out of the world’s oldest club competition, and it now means that Ronald Koeman’s men only have the Premier League to focus on between now and the end of the season.

They will have to try and bridge a gap to Jose Mourinho’s sixth place Manchester United, but their six-match winning run in the league has seen the Red Devils move nine points clear of seventh place Everton, and it would take an incredible effort from Koeman’s men to try and reel United in.

Koeman may need further reinforcements to do just that and, with the January transfer window well underway, he could be tempted to draft in more players over the next few weeks.

Thus, here are TWO midfielders that would be perfect for Everton this month…

Yacine Brahimi

Everton attempted to sign FC Porto midfielder Yacine Brahimi in the summer, but no deal materialised for the Algerian international.

Instead, he has shown the Toffees what they missed out on by scoring four goals and laying on two assists in 24 games for the Portuguese giants, helping them to second place in the Primeira Liga as well as the last 16 of the Champions League.

Brahimi has been in fine form, most notably in recent times, as he netted three goals in his last four games for the club before going on African Cup of Nations duty with Algeria.

Despite being unavailable for a month, Brahimi would add much-needed attacking prowess to Everton’s midfield, with the likes of Kevin Mirallas, Aaron Lennon, and Ross Barkley all inconsistent to be relied upon.

Recent reports suggest that the Toffees could face a battle with Nice for the 26-year-old, but he’s a player that would certainly benefit them going forward.

Memphis Depay

Everton look set to capture one Manchester United midfielder this month in Morgan Schneiderlin, but could they add attacking midfielder Memphis Depay as well?

The Dutch international has been out of favour at Old Trafford all season, making just one start for the Red Devils as well as seven other substitute appearances.

In his limited time on the pitch, Depay has contributed no goals and no assists, and needs to get out of Manchester fast to resurrect his flailing career.

And Everton could be one club that offers him a route out of Old Trafford.

Koeman’s men have been linked with the midfielder over the last few weeks and, if United are willing to sell, Everton could be the ideal destination for Depay, as he’ll get more regular game time at Goodison Park.
