These 2 midfielders would be perfect for Tottenham in January

Tottenham picked up their sixth successive win in all competitions last weekend when they overcame Championship side Aston Villa 2-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Ben Davies and Son Heung-min sealed Mauricio Pochettino’s men a place in the last 32 of the world’s oldest club competition, where they will play host to League Two high-flyers Wycombe Wanderers in a few weeks’ time.

Nonetheless, Spurs turn their attentions back to the Premier League this weekend, with Tony Pulis’ West Brom visiting White Hart Lane in a bid to become the first team to win there in the league this season.

However, Pochettino’s men go into Saturday’s encounter having beaten league leaders Chelsea 2-0 in their last league outing, which has since raised hopes that Tottenham could end a 56-year wait for the First Division title this season.

Spurs have won their last five league games, and know that victory in Saturday’s early kick-off would take them above Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool into second place, and to within four points of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.

Yet, many still feel that Spurs will come up short this season, just like they did last term, unless Pochettino brings in one or two reinforcements this month.

Thus, here are TWO midfielders that would be perfect for Tottenham in January…

Ross Barkley

There has been speculation in recent weeks that Tottenham are interested in bringing Everton’s Ross Barkley to White Hart Lane, and it’s a deal they should certainly try to complete.

The England international has struggled for the Toffees at times this season, and has occasionally been criticised by his manager Ronald Koeman, yet he has also shown glimpses of the potential that he does have – he just needs backing and someone to extract that from him on a regular basis.

And, with the way that Pochettino has helped Dele Alli and Eric Dier, and also taken full-backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker to the next level, it’s clear that the Spurs boss is the man to do just that. He’ll back him, and give him every chance to fulfil his potential.

Whether Barkley will want to leave Everton remains to be seen, but you sense that for the sake of his career, for both club and country, he needs to consider a move away.

Isco

Isco’s uncertain future at Real Madrid has been speculated upon for a while now, but it could be resolved in the next few weeks.

The 24-year-old has slowly seen his game time reduce at the Bernabeu, having gone from making 53 appearances in his first season at the club to 43 last time out, and just 19 thus far this term.

The Spanish international has started just nine of their 16 La Liga matches this season, and doesn’t look like nailing down a first team spot anytime soon.

Thus, he could be open to a move away this month, and one club that has a reported interest in the midfielder is Tottenham.

Isco would provide Pochettino with another option in both the attacking midfield area and indeed the more defensive role, and his quality would certainly benefit Spurs in their quest for the Premier League title.

It’s a deal the club must try and get done in the coming weeks.
