These 2 strikers would be perfect for Liverpool in January

Liverpool laboured to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Southampton on Wednesday in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have made a sluggish start to 2017, having drawn with both Sunderland and Plymouth Argyle, and they followed those results up with an equally frustrating display at St Mary’s last night.

Nathan Redmond’s first half strike sealed a deserved win for Claude Puel’s men, but the hosts will be irritated not to be heading into the second leg at Anfield on January 25 with a greater lead, with Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius making several good saves to keep Klopp’s men in the tie.

Nevertheless, Klopp’s men turn their attentions back to the Premier League this weekend when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Reds had an excellent first half of the season, which has seen them win 13 of their 20 league games, and go 11 games unbeaten between August and December.

Nonetheless, there may be a few doubts creeping into the squad after their last couple of results, and Klopp may look at those and feel that he needs more reinforcements this month to sustain a title challenge, and potentially win a domestic trophy.

Thus, here are TWO strikers that would be perfect for Liverpool in January…

Inaki Williams

One of the brightest talents in La Liga, Inaki Williams, has had an excellent few weeks for Athletic Bilbao.

The 22-year-old broke through last season, netting 13 goals in 37 appearances for the Spanish side, and although he made a sluggish start to this campaign, scoring just once in his first 18 games, he has netted twice and assisted once in his last five starts.

Williams, who made his debut for the Spanish national team in May 2016, signed a new contract at Bilbao last year, yet it doesn’t appear that his €50 million release clause is going to put Klopp off attempting to sign the starlet.

He is quick and powerful, and could well be the sort of forward Klopp wants to buy into his style of play, both in the present and indeed for many years to come.

A January deal could be on the cards.

Alexander Isak

The man dubbed the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic by an AIK teammate last year, Alexander Isak is making great strides in the Swedish top-flight.

The 17-year-old, who made his debut for Sweden in their 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast on Sunday, becoming the youngest player to play for his country in 106 years, has had a stellar first season in senior football, netting 13 times in 29 games for AIK, of which ten where in the Allsvenskan.

At just 17 years of age, Isak progression has been extraordinary, and unsurprisingly he is being tipped to go and achieve big things in the game.

Thus, interest has been rife in the young forward, with both Everton and Liverpool monitoring the Swedish star, as are the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

However, Klopp may look at Isak as the perfect man to lead the line for Liverpool over the next five or so years, and thus could look to beat the rest to the youngster’s signature this month.
