These 2 strikers would be perfect for Manchester United in January

Manchester United recorded a ninth successive victory in all competitions on Tuesday when they beat Hull 2-0 in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s men are one of the form teams in the country, and second half goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini got the better of Marco Silva’s Hull, who defended admirably with a hugely depleted squad.

It means that United will be heavy favourites to reach a ninth League Cup final when they two sides meet at the KCOM Stadium on January 26, yet the Tigers know that an early goal would get them right back in the tie.

Nonetheless, Mourinho’s men will turn their attentions back to the Premier League this weekend, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool visiting Old Trafford on Sunday in what is set to be a thrilling contest between the two sides.

The Red Devils have won their last six Premier League games, conceding just three times during that time, while the Reds haven’t lost in the league since their 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth on December 4.

It is sure to be a fascinating encounter between the two sides and, with United ten points adrift of Chelsea, they know that they’ll need to continue their good run to keep their slim title hopes alive.

Further signings may be needed this month as well if United are to have a genuine chance of a 14th Premier League title, so here are TWO strikers who’d be perfect for the Red Devils in January…

Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United are quite reliant on forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and, with the Swedish star at the age of 35, Mourinho may look to bring in a long-term replacement for the striker in January.

Thus, the Portuguese boss could take a look at Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian international has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League over the last few seasons, and had his best goal-scoring campaign last time out by netting 18 times in 37 league games for the Toffees.

However, Lukaku looks set to beat that tally this season, having already scored 11 goals in 19 matches, and he is the one Everton heavily rely on to get their goals – arguably, the Toffees would have been in a relegation scrap last season without his goals.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman admitted a while ago that Lukaku’s future is unlikely to be at Goodison Park, and United should look at that as an opportunity to sign the 23-year-old.

There were reports linking him with a move to Old Trafford back in November and, given his age and prior experience of English football, he could be exactly what United are looking for.

Antoine Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann is one of the best attackers in world football, yet his future at Atletico Madrid is far from certain.

The 25-year-old scored 32 goals in just 54 games for Diego Simeone’s side last season – the Frenchman’s best ever goal-scoring campaign – and then followed that up with six goals to help France reach the final of the European Championships last summer.

However, the tournament’s top-scorer parted company with his agent in September and, with Simeone’s own future also up in the air, speculation has been building that Griezmann could quit the Spanish side in the near future.

Chelsea and Manchester United have since been linked with the forward, and Mourinho should get there ahead of his former employers to bring Griezmann to Old Trafford.

The French international can play anywhere across the front as well as in the number ten role, so would give United plenty of options going forward, while his friendship with Paul Pogba could also be a factor in his decision.

He’ll cost a lot of money but, based on his past few years in La Liga, Griezmann would be worth every penny.
