These 2 strikers would be perfect for West Ham in January

West Ham were one of six Premier League sides to exit the FA Cup last weekend following their 5-0 thumping by Manchester City on Friday night.

Slaven Bilic’s side were comprehensively outplayed by the Citizens, and goals from Yaya Toure, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, and John Stones, as well as an own goal from Havard Nordtveit, secured an easy passage into the last 32 for Pep Guardiola’s men.

It means that the Hammers have only the Premier League to concentrate on between now and the end of the season, and they’ll look to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.

West Ham are currently 13th in the division having won six of their 20 league games this term, but they hold a healthy seven-point lead over 18th place Sunderland.

However, back-to-back league defeats against Leicester and Manchester United has put them closer to the relegation scrap, and a few more wins over the next couple of weeks may be needed to ease any relegation fears.

To get those victories, Bilic may need to dip into the transfer window and reinforce his squad ready for the second half of the season, so here are TWO strikers that would be perfect for West Ham…

Daniel Sturridge

When only two of your strikers have scored in the Premier League this season, of which they have totalled three goals, you know you’ve got a problem in the final third.

Andy Carroll (twice) and Diafra Sahko (once) are the only strikers to have netted in the league this season, so Bilic must be on the look-out for more firepower in the January window.

One man they have been linked with, and indeed should go after, is Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge.

The England international has seen first team football hard to come by this season at Anfield, and netted his first Premier League goal of the campaign only two weeks ago against Stoke.

Sturridge has made just five starts in the league for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and he could be looking for a move away from Merseyside in a bid to get regular first team football.

He’d certainly get that at West Ham, and it’s a deal that would suit both him and the Hammers.

Mario Mandzukic

When it comes to experienced strikers, there aren’t many with more games under their belt than Mario Mandzukic.

The 30-year-old Juventus forward has played 430 times at club level in his career, and has netted a brilliant 186 goals in that time.

However, the returning Paulo Dybala could force the Croatian international out of Turin as, alongside record-signing Gonzalo Higuain, Mandzukic is unlikely to be first choice.

This was demonstrated in their 3-0 win over Bologna on Sunday, where Dybala and Higuain led the line and both scored to see off the lower-half side, restricting Mandzukic to a 17-minute substitute’s cameo.

Unsurprisingly, speculation has been growing regarding a potential move this month, with Premier League duo West Ham and Tottenham both reportedly keen on bringing the 30-year-old to London.

For the Hammers, this would represent a real coup if they can persuade Mandzukic to move to the London Stadium, and he’d certainly bring the goals to help move the East London side up the table.
