These 2 Tottenham stars must leave in January for their own good

Tottenham recorded a sixth successive Premier League victory on Saturday as they thumped eighth place West Brom 4-0 at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dominant from the first whistle, and a Harry Kane hat-trick as well as a Gareth McAuley own goal secured a comprehensive win for the hosts in what was one of their best performances of the season.

The win, their 13th of the campaign, moves them up to second in the table following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday, but they still remain seven points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, who won 3-0 at Leicester on Saturday.

Nonetheless, Spurs are the form team in the division at present, and will certainly fancy their chances of going to Manchester City on Saturday and getting a seventh consecutive Premier League victory.

However, many still feel that Spurs lack the depth to sustain a title challenge, so Pochettino may need to dip into the transfer market to strengthen his squad.

Yet, that means that some players may need to leave the club to make room for new additions, so here are TWO Spurs players that must leave the club this month for their own good…

Tom Carroll

Spurs are well-stocked in the midfield department following the summer arrival of Victor Wanyama, which makes it difficult to see Tom Carroll having a future at White Hart Lane.

The 24-year-old has played just one minute of Premier League action this season – he came on as a last-minute substitute against Crystal Palace back in August – but has since been restricted to just two League Cup starts.

Thus, with the likes of Wanyama, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, and Harry Winks well above him in the pecking order, Carroll needs to move on, as he’s not going to get a run in the Spurs team anytime soon.

The midfielder has got genuine quality in the middle of the park, he made 14 league appearances last season for Tottenham, and would be a good signing for many a bottom half Premier League side.

He had a decent loan spell at Swansea back in 2014/15, and you sense that another move of that ilk may be what Carroll needs to improve as a midfielder, and indeed fulfil his potential.

Kevin Wimmer

Pochettino has implemented a back three in recent weeks, but there has been no place for Austrian international Kevin Wimmer in the Spurs defence.

And, when you’re struggling to get into a side playing three centre-backs, you know that you’re out of favour and could probably do with a move away in the near future.

The 24-year-old has started three Premier League games for Spurs this season, although his first start of the campaign saw him score an own goal in the North London derby against Arsenal back in November, which was indicative of his tricky afternoon at the Emirates.

A few further starts have taken place since then against Chelsea and Watford, two games in which he did okay but not brillaint, yet it’s clear that he’s not a first choice at White Hart Lane and thus he should look for a move away this month.

Tottenham are unlikely to sell Wimmer, as he clearly has got the potential to be a great centre-back, yet a loan move could help his development.

The recent injury to Jan Vertonghen could halt any potential move, but Southampton are reportedly monitoring the Austrian defender and, if Virgil van Dijk and Jose Fonte were to leave this month, Wimmer would certainly be guaranteed first team football at St Mary’s.
