These 2 Tottenham youngsters could be the next Marcus Rashford

It’s just over a year ago to the day that Marcus Rashford announced himself on the big stage with Manchester United.

The teenager benefitted from Anthony Martial’s injury in the warm-up to take his place in the starting eleven against Midtjylland on February 25 2016, and he made the most of his chance by netting a brace in a 5-1 victory for the Red Devils.

The 19-year-old’s efforts took the country by storm and just 72 hours later, he was named in the United eleven to face Arsenal in the Premier League, and he once again didn’t disappoint, scoring twice in just three minutes to help Louis van Gaal’s men to a 3-2 success over the Gunners.

Those whirlwind few days completely changed Rashford’s career, as he has since made his debut and scored on it for England against Australia, and then made Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad for the European Championships in 2016.

Add in a winner in a Manchester derby, as well as crucial strikes against Aston Villa and Hull, and the forward has had a stellar rise, but who might be the next youngster to take their chance in the first team when it comes along?

Well, we took a look at Tottenham’s pool of young talent, and given manager Mauricio Pochettino’s track record of giving youth a chance, here are TWO forwards who could be the next Rashford…

Kazaiah Sterling

18-year-old Kazaiah Sterling scored the only goal for the Tottenham Under-23s in their Premier League 2 victory over Sunderland a few weeks ago to continue his fine form in front of goal.

The forward has been at Spurs for a while now having made his debut in the 2014/15 campaign for the Under-16s, only to be promoted quickly to the Under-18s ready for the 2015/16 season, where he would go on and net eight goals in 21 appearances.

Sterling has also made four appearances for the Under-23s in Premier League 2 this term, netting twice, while he also scored three times for the Under-18s in their run to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup, with his latest goal coming in their 5-3 victory over Newcastle on Monday.

Clearly, Sterling has enormous potential, and given that he has already played for both the England Under-17 and Under-18 teams (he is seen scoring the second for the latter above), he is someone to keep an eye on over the coming years.

Shayon Harrison

Another player who has seriously impressed for the Development Squad this term, Shayon Harrison actually made his senior debut for Tottenham in their League Cup defeat to Liverpool earlier this season.

The 19-year-old netted nine times in just 13 games for the Under-21s last season to help them to eighth place in Premier League 2, and added six more this term before joining League Two outfit Yeovil Town on loan last month.

With 16 goals in 31 games for the Spurs Under-21s, as well as goals in the UEFA Youth League and for the Under-18s, Harrison deserves his shot at league football and, although he is yet to net for the Glovers since joining on January 22, the goals will surely come for the forward.
