These 3 Arsenal players are massively overrated – Agreed?

Arsene Wenger is looking to end Arsenal’s 12-year wait for the Premier League title by going one better than last season and finishing top of the pile.

The Gunners have gone about it in the right way in the first couple of months, winning six league games on the spin to sit behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference.

Wenger’s side host struggling Middlesbrough on Saturday as they look to top the table for the first time this season, and know a win would do just that, albeit maybe only for 24 hours.

Nevertheless, it has been an impressive start from the Gunners, who thrashed Ludogorets 6-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, a result which moved them level on points with Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Group A.

However, there have been some Arsenal players that haven’t hit the heights in recent seasons, and here are THREE overrated players on the books at the Emirates…

Mathieu Debuchy

Mathieu Debuchy was brought to North London in the summer of 2014 in a bid to strengthen Arsenal’s full-backs options, which were depleted somewhat when Bacary Sagna left for Manchester City.

Although Debuchy did well at Newcastle prior to the move, he’s been disappointing at Arsenal, and has deservedly lost his place to the rapidly-improving Hector Bellerin.

In his defence, a few frustrating injuries kept him out for much of 2014/15, but his return to the side in their FA Cup semi-final against Reading proved that he was not the same £12 million right-back they signed from Newcastle.

Consistently out of position and struggling with the pace of the game, the Frenchman’s Arsenal career is all but over.

Gabriel

There was a mixed reaction to Gabriel’s arrival at Arsenal, with many delighted that the Gunners had finally brought in a centre-back, but some were apprehensive as little knew who Gabriel was.

Nevertheless, Wenger spent over £11 million on the 25-year-old and, based on the fact that he spent almost £35 million on Shkodran Mustafi this summer, he clearly didn’t feel confident that Gabriel would live up to expectation.

A couple of decent performances here and there have demonstrated promise, but on the whole it has been a disappointing few years for Gabriel, who has now fallen well down the pecking order at the Emirates.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

It might be a tad harsh, but when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Arsenal in 2011, there were high hopes from both Arsenal and England fans about the youngster’s future.

But it just hasn’t materialised for the 23-year-old.

He has been in and out of the Gunners team for a while now, and has never really looked like nailing down a place in the first team.

Injuries have thwarted his chances in recent times, but you help can’t feel that Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn’t lived up to the hype just yet.

Time, however, is on his side.
