Liverpool fans will be absolutely thrilled with the opening three months of the 2016/17 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp, in his first full season in charge at Anfield, has led the side to second place in the Premier League, and also the last four of the League Cup.

The Reds got the better of Championship outfit Leeds United in the quarter-finals of the competition last night, with goals from Divock Origi and 17-year-old Ben Woodburn putting them within one game of Wembley, and a chance to avenge last season’s disappointing defeat to Manchester City in the final.

It’s not just in the cup where Liverpool have been impressive though, they have been in scintillating form in the league as well.

Klopp’s men have won nine of their first 13 league games, with Burnley the only side thus far to take all three points off the Reds, and are the top-scorers in the division with 32 goals, three more than the next best Chelsea and City.

Victories over Arsenal, Leicester, and Chelsea have outlined Liverpool’s title credentials, but many still feel that they could come up short this season unless Klopp reinforces his squad in the January transfer window.

Thus, here are the THREE star signings who top Liverpool’s Christmas list…

Jonathan Tah

Liverpool have conceded more goals than any other side in the top five, so Klopp could look to strengthen his defensive options in January.

One man he should be looking at is Bayer Leverkusen’s 20-year-old centre-back Jonathan Tah, who shot to prominence last year with the German side.

The German, who made his senior international debut against England in March, made 45 appearances in all competitions to help Leverkusen finish third in the Bundesliga last season, and in turn qualify for this season’s Champions League for the fourth year in a row.

Tah is a ball-playing defender who reads the game well and can pick out a pass, but he can also defend solidly, is aerially dominant, and strong in the tackle, which is everything you want from a centre-back.

Joel Matip arrived from the Bundesliga in the summer and has adapted well to life in England, and Klopp will hope that his defensive target can have a similar impact should he arrive in January.

Mahmoud Dahoud

Liverpool are reportedly readying a £25 million bid to bring Borussia Monchengladbach starlet Mahmoud Dahoud to Anfield in January.

The 20-year-old broke through last season in the German side, and scored five and set up nine more to help the club finish fourth in the Bundesliga, and in turn qualify for the Champions League.

The German Under-21 international has once again been an important part of the Monchengladbach team this time around, and scored the opener in their 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim on Saturday.

At 20 years of age, Dahoud could control the Liverpool midfield for many years to come, so Klopp should get a deal done quickly to bring the youngster to Merseyside.

Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the past 12 months.

The Southampton centre-back moved to St Mary’s in the summer of 2015 from Celtic and, although it took him a bit of time to adapt to the English game, he is now relishing the challenge of Premier League football every week.

Van Dijk has been an integral part of the solid Saints defence this season, and his all round ability in the centre-back role has attracted several suitors, one of which being Liverpool.

The way he marshalled Romelu Lukaku last weekend is only going to step up the interest in the 25-year-old, so Klopp will need to act fast to get his man.
