Arsene Wenger is looking to end a 12-year wait for the Premier League title this season, and his side’s start to the campaign suggest that they could end that barren run this time around.

The Gunners are fourth in the league having won seven of their opening 11 Premier League games, and are unbeaten in all competitions since the opening day defeat at home to Liverpool.

Arsenal are just two points behind Jurgen Klopp’s men at the top, but will have the chance to go top on Saturday when they travel to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in the early kick-off.

Also, Wenger’s men have already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, and will go into next week’s home game against Paris Saint-Germain knowing that victory over the French champions would all but secure top spot in Group A.

However, with still a few more days of the international break left, we thought it’d be worthwhile to reflect on Arsenal’s history, and select their TOP THREE strikers of all time…

3) Dennis Bergkamp

There were a fair few names that could’ve got third spot, with the likes of Ted Drake, who scored 139 goals in 184 appearances, and Cliff Bastin, who is third on the Gunners’ all-time goal-scorers list, both unlucky to be usurped to the podium.

However, you can’t look past the supremely talented Dennis Bergkamp who, although he scored fewer goals than the aforementioned two, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players the Premier League has even seen.

The Dutchman netted 120 times in an 11-year spell in North London, and won three Premier League titles with Arsenal. It was in 1997/98 that he was particularly inspirational, where he scored 16 league goals in 28 appearances, and was rightly named the FWA Football of the Year and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for that season.

Bergkamp was a genius, and one who deservedly gets a place on this podium.

2) Ian Wright

Ian Wright’s goal-scoring record at Arsenal was simply sensational.

The Englishman, who was capped 33 times by his country, signed from Crystal Palace for £2.5 million back in 1991, which was at the time a club record transfer fee.

However, it was money very well spent as Wright went on to score 185 goals in just 288 appearances for the Gunners, and was the club’s top-scorer for six successive seasons from 1991 to 1997.

He became the club’s record goal-scorer in 1997, usurping Bastin’s 178 and, although he didn’t win the Premier League with Arsenal until his final season at the club in 1997/98, Wright was brilliant in front of goal, and rightly goes down as a Gunners legend.

1) Thierry Henry

Wright’s eight-year stint at the top of Arsenal’s goal-scoring charts was ended in 2005 by one of the greatest strikers the Premier League has ever seen, Thierry Henry.

The Frenchman joined the Gunners in 1999 for £11 million and, although he failed to net in his first eight games and questions were asked about his ability in English football, he soon put any doubts to rest by embarking on a stellar eight years in North London.

Henry netted 228 times in 377 games for Arsenal, and was the club’s top-scorer for seven straight seasons from 1999/00 to 2005/06.

In that time, he helped the club win two Premier League titles, and was an integral part of the ‘Invincibles’ team that went 49 league games unbeaten between 2003 and 2004, including a full season undefeated in 2003/04.

An incredible striker who deservedly stands on top of this podium.
