Football Manager fans haven’t got long to wait for the latest edition of one of the world’s best football game series.

Football Manager 2017 is due for release on Friday, November 4, and many fans up and down the country are eagerly anticipating the new issue of the series.

A number of supporters will already be considering how best to their team to the next level, be it Manchester City fans looking to make their mark in Europe, or Sheffield United fans hoping to get their side out of Sky Bet League One.

Whether they have to spend big on talented individuals or fast-track youngsters into the first team will depend on the finances, the board’s expectations, and the supporters’ knowledge of how to get the best out of their team.

However, some fans will look to embark on some tricky challenges on the game in a bid to prove themselves as a top-quality boss.

And, for Nottingham Forest fans who have seen their side struggle to get out of the Sky Bet Championship, these challenges could be particularly appealing.

Here are THREE challenges Forest fans should look to attempt on FM17…

Promotion in first season

Forest are one of about 17 teams who went into this season’s Championship with realistic ambitions of winning promotion.

Although in reality things haven’t quite gone according to plan, this is a realistic challenge for Forest fans on the game.

The Championship gets harder every year, as numerous relegated Premier League sides have found out in recent seasons, so the best time to get out of it is the next campaign.

So, you have to win promotion at the City Ground in your first season in charge.

Long-term Premier League ambition

If you’d rather take time and build something at Forest, this challenge might be for you.

Forest were an established side in the top-flight between 1977 and 1993, and on numerous occasions finished near the top of the league.

Your job, over a six-year period, is to re-establish Forest’s position in the Premier League.

Promotion in the first season is not a requirement – you might find it more beneficial to spend time in the Championship developing youngsters and a style of play – but you’ve only got six years to consolidate the club in the top-flight, much in the same way Stoke have in recent times.

However, Stoke have been in the Premier League for nine years now – you’ve only got six to do a similar thing with Forest.

Cup run

Forest fans have had very little to cheer in recent years.

They haven’t been in the top-flight since 1999, they haven’t won the League Cup since 1990, and the FA Cup since 1958. That’s too long a time without success for one of England’s biggest clubs.

However, you are, within two seasons, going to win one of the two domestic cup competitions.

Championship clubs have gone close in both competitions in recent seasons, and now it’s time for Forest to go that one step further.

However, in line with a successful cup run, you must maintain a top-half finish in the Championship in both seasons.

This may be a short-term goal, but ultimately it is the long-term interests of the club which take priority.
