This is Manchester City’s dream January front line including this key target

Manchester City picked up a vital 2-1 win at Burnley on Saturday to temporarily top the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola’s side trailed thanks to Dean Marney’s stunning long-range strike, but two Sergio Aguero goals sealed an important win for City, their ninth league victory of the campaign.

It was their third league success in their last four games, but it was another indication that, even though they weren’t at their best, they got the three points.

In Aguero, they have the Premier League’s joint top-scorer, with his ten goals equal to that of Chelsea’s Diego Costa, and no one has laid on more assists in the league as Kevin De Bruyne, who was actually benched against the Clarets.

However, Chelsea’s win at Tottenham in the late game coupled with Liverpool’s late victory over Sunderland means that City sit third in the Premier League table, but they are just a point adrift of Antonio Conte’s Blues at the summit.

And, given that Guardiola’s men have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, City will be fighting on both domestic and European fronts next year, and more reinforcements may be needed to be competitive in those competitions.

Thus, here is the dream City front line, including one key January target…

Kevin De Bruyne

Top of the Premier League assists table as well as a few goals so far this season, City’s Kevin De Bruyne is a class act, and his form will be crucial in determining how far Guardiola’s side go this year.

The Belgian international has laid on seven assists for his teammates and, although he was benched for the trip to Burnley yesterday, it’s clear that City play better when he’s in the starting eleven.

The last couple of years has been a remarkable turnaround for De Bruyne, who left Chelsea as a relative unknown, and embarked on a fine spell at Wolfsburg, which earned him a big money move back to the Premier League.

His pace, trickery, and general all round brilliance in the final third would be perfect in this front line.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The Bundesliga Player of the Year, and scorer of 39 goals in 49 games last season, Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of the most clinical goal-scorers in world football.

The Gabon international moved to Dortmund in 2013 after an excellent stint at St Etienne, and has gone on to score 96 goals in 159 games for the German outfit – a staggering strike rate.

Aubameyang made it 16 for the season in their 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt yesterday, a result that sees them slip to sixth in the Bundesliga, and he has unsurprisingly been linked with a move away from the club.

Guardiola is reportedly a fan, and the 27-year-old forward is entering, if not already in, his peak years, so City should do all they can to bring him to the Etihad.

Sergio Aguero

There is not a finer striker in the Premier League than City’s Sergio Aguero.

Two more goals in the 2-1 comeback win at Burnley on Saturday takes the Argentine’s tally to 16 in 18 games for City this season, and his tally of ten in the league sees him top of the standings alongside Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Aguero’s brace takes him up to 18th on the all time Premier League top-scorer’s list with 112, and he will once again be integral to City’s success this time around, such are his predatory instincts in the box, and ability to score from anywhere inside the penalty area.

A front line of De Bruyne, Aubameyang, and Aguero would both create and score goals, and would certainly frighten any Premier League defence.
