This is the ultimate Arsenal and Tottenham combined XI – Agree?

The first North London derby of the season is almost upon us, and it’s sure to be a cracker as an unbeaten Tottenham travel to in-form Arsenal on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners are unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions, dating back to their opening weekend defeat at home to Liverpool.

Since then, they’ve recorded seven league wins, three Champions League victories, and two League Cup successes, while drawing their other three games.

The Premier League’s second-place side host Mauricio Pochettino’s fifth-place Spurs at the Emirates, who disappointingly slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday.

That defeat extends Spurs’ winless streak to six matches in all competitions, which dates back to their impressive 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the start of October.

However, Pochettino’s side are the only unbeaten team left in the top-flight, and that record will certainly be put to the test by Alexis Sanchez and co on Sunday.

With the build-up to the North London derby already underway, many are speculating about who could start for each side on Sunday, but we at Shoot! have instead picked a combined Gunners and Spurs eleven from the current squads.

Here is our combined Arsenal and Tottenham XI…

GK – Petr Cech

It’s a tricky one to decide between Petr Cech and Hugo Lloris, as both have proven to be outstanding goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Both men have also started this season well, but Cech just gets the nod in our team because of his experience and high level over the course of a number of years.

The former Chelsea keeper commands his area as well as anyone and, although both he and Lloris have kept four clean sheets this season, the Arsenal shot-stopper has made more saves.

He just pips Lloris to the number one jersey.

LB – Danny Rose

Nacho Monreal has impressed for Arsenal in recent seasons, but he looked edgy against Middlesbrough and was comfortably second best to Modou Barrow against Swansea a few weeks back.

Consequently, Danny Rose, as a more consistent performer and providing a greater attacking threat, gets the left-back slot in this side.

The England international has quickly become his country’s number one left-back, and continues to impress for Spurs down the left-hand side.

Equally adept at defending as he is going forward, the 26-year-old has grown into a solid and dependable full-back in recent years.

CB – Toby Alderweireld

What a signing Toby Alderweireld has turned out to be for Spurs!

The Belgian international was sensational at the back for Southampton when on loan there in the 2014/15 season, earning him a move to White Hart Lane in that summer, and he has continued in the same vein at Tottenham.

One of the best defenders and arguably the best centre-half in the division last season, Alderweireld is a must in this team.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

It’s a difficult choice between Jan Vertonghen and Laurent Koscielny, but the latter just gets in ahead of the Spurs man.

Koscielny has improved dramatically since his arrival in English football back in 2010 and, although he is still prone to the odd error, he more than makes up for them with numerous goal-saving tackles and interceptions.

His reading of the game and positional awareness is excellent, and he has become a vital part of the Arsenal back four in recent seasons.

One of the most improved defenders in the last few years, Koscielny partners Alderweireld in this side.

RB – Hector Bellerin

In another tough decision, Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin gets in ahead of Spurs’ Kyle Walker at right-back.

The Arsenal defender has made the right-back spot his own at the Emirates in the last few years, and is a dependable part of an improving Gunners defence.

He offers an attacking threat as well, like many great full-backs, and his pace is unbelievable.

For a young player, his reading of the game is very good, and he’s arguably a slightly better defender than Walker, which is why he gets into this combined eleven.

CM – Santi Cazorla

Any team in the Premier League would benefit from having Santi Cazorla in their side, and this combined eleven would be no different.

The Spanish international has been consistently excellent since moving to the Emirates in 2012, and is often near the top of the Premier League assists’ chart come the end of the season.

Technically better than most in the division and with an incredible eye for a pass, Cazorla would be perfect in the defensive midfield role of this team.

CM – Victor Wanyama

Alongside Cazorla would be Victor Wanyama, who has made the transition from Southampton to Spurs look effortless so far this season.

He is a vital part of the Spurs team which keeps many clean sheets and also scores a fair few goals, as he is able to break up play but also launch attacks.

Strong in the tackle and pretty quick, he’d complement the more attack-minded Cazorla in this side by doing more of the so-called ‘dirty’ work.

LW – Alexis Sanchez

Both teams have an array of excellent attacking options, but Alexis Sanchez just about trumps all of Spurs’ choices going forward.

The Chilean has been in sensational form so far this season in the more advanced role, netting eight times in 14 games for Gunners.

Incredible energy, quick, and with flair in the final third, the 27-year-old would get into most teams in the top-flight, and definitely deserves his place in this eleven.

CAM – Mesut Ozil

In most other combined teams, Spurs’ Dele Alli would probably get this spot but, when it comes to creative players, there aren’t many better in the Premier League than Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.

He topped the assists’ chart last season with 19, six more than Spurs’ Christian Eriksen in second, and has added more goals to his game this campaign, having netted seven times already, just one less than his tally for the whole of last season.

He is in unbelievable form, and his goal against Ludogerets the other night epitomises the German’s incredible confidence at the moment.

He’d get into any Premier League side.

RW – Christian Eriksen

There’s a few that could have got the nod for this spot. Son Heung-min has been in impressive form for Spurs this season, as has Theo Walcott for Arsenal, but Christian Eriksen’s brilliant consistency gets him the place.

Last season’s tally of 13 assists was only bettered by Ozil and, even in the 2014/15 season where he laid on only two, he scored 12 times for Spurs.

He is always contributing to the team in some way, be it goals or assists, and, although he doesn’t score as many as Harry Kane or Dele Alli, he is just as important to the team as they are.

Incredible positional awareness and the ability to carve open defences, Eriksen makes this side.

ST – Harry Kane

When Harry Kane is on his game, there are few better in the Premier League.

An incredible finisher but also an excellent all-round striker, the England international has everything needed to be a top striker in the Premier League.

Quick, strong, and the ability to bring teammates into play, Kane is the sort of striker every creative midfielder and playmaker want playing in front of them.

He comfortably trumps all of Arsenal’s striking options.
