Tottenham saw their unbeaten start to the Premier League season come to an end on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at league leaders Chelsea.

Spurs had taken the lead after Christian Eriksen’s fine strike, yet Antonio Conte’s Blues hit back just before half-time through Pedro.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino would have felt hard done by to only go in level at the break, but his side were comfortably second best after the interval, and Victor Moses’ goal six minutes into the second half turned out to be the winner.

It means that Spurs’ unbeaten start comes to an end at the 13th time of asking, and it also means that they trail Chelsea by seven points in the table.

Pochettino’s men are fifth having won six and drawn six of their 13 games, and could really do with turning some of those draws into wins in the coming weeks, given that they have won just one of their last seven league matches.

It’s been a tricky week for Spurs, who were fortunate to come from behind to beat West Ham last weekend, and then were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a below par display in their 2-1 defeat to Monaco.

Thus, it seems clear that Spurs need reinforcements in January if they want to sustain a title challenge, and Pochettino could look at improving his attacking options at White Hart Lane.

The Argentine likes to play a 4-2-3-1 formation, so here is his dream front four, including one key January target…

Dele Alli

One of the shining lights of the Premier League last season, Dele Alli has gone from playing League One football 15 months ago to a Tottenham and England regular.

The 20-year-old scored ten times and laid on nine assists in the league last time out, helping Spurs challenge Leicester for the title right up until the last few games of the campaign.

His three goals and one assist have also helped Tottenham make a solid start to the new season, and his clever runs and intelligence on the ball will be crucial if Spurs are to be make a title challenge this time around.

Christian Eriksen

With 24 goals and 26 assists since moving to England in 2013, it’s fair to say that Christian Eriksen has been an important player for Tottenham in recent seasons.

The Danish international laid on 13 assists last time out to help Spurs get back into the top four and challenge for the title and, although he only had two assists in the previous campaign, he netted ten times for the club.

Eriksen is either creating chances or scoring the goals, and his first of this season away at Chelsea on Saturday could be the start of a rich vein of form for the 24-year-old.

Isco

Spanish international Isco was once again restricted to a substitute cameo as Real Madrid beat Sporting Gijon 2-1 in La Liga on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a first team place under Zinedine Zidane this season, this all after making 43 appearances in all competitions last time out for the European champions.

However, his growing frustration, and unlikeliness to sign a new deal, has alerted several English clubs, notably Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester United.

Thus, it’s a deal Pochettino must get done in January, as he can provide Spurs with greater options both in advanced areas, and also in deeper-lying midfield positions.

Isco would slot perfectly into this attacking trio, and all three of them could chop and change position such is their versatility and adeptness in each role.

It could be a signing that takes Spurs from outsiders in the title race to genuine challengers.

Harry Kane

And this attacking trio would play behind star striker Harry Kane.

The English international won the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 25 goals, and was a key reason why Spurs achieved their highest ever top-flight finish.

It’s been clear from his absence this season how important he is to this Tottenham team, and how much they miss his presence upfront when he’s unavailable.

They cannot keep relying on Kane, who has already netted six times this season, but with the three behind him, he is always going to get chances to score, and they themselves will also get opportunities in front of goal.

This quartet would be a handful for any Premier League defence, and could give Spurs a genuine shot in the title race.
