This is what Liverpool’s fearsome front three could look like come the end of January

Liverpool picked up a decent 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday, but in doing so fell further behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s men comfortably beat Leicester 3-0 at the King Power Stadium to record a 17th victory of the campaign, and Jurgen Klopp’s Reds looked set to keep the pressure up when James Milner gave them a first half lead at Old Trafford.

However, in-form striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised six minutes from time to secure Jose Mourinho’s side a point, a point which doesn’t do either side much good in their respective aims for the campaign.

Klopp’s Liverpool slip to third as a result of their draw and Tottenham’s win over West Brom, and they now trail Conte’s Chelsea by seven points with 17 games to go.

Nonetheless, there were encouraging signs from a Liverpool side that have yet to win in 2017, although they’ll go into tonight’s FA Cup replay at Plymouth (7.45pm kick-off) expecting to get that elusive victory.

With the January transfer window well underway, many feel that Klopp needs to strengthen his squad to bridge the gap to Chelsea over the coming months, so more additions may be forthcoming at Anfield in the next few weeks.

Thus, here is what their fearsome FRONT THREE could look like come the end of January…

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane has been absolutely sensational for Liverpool since his big money move from Southampton in the summer.

The Senegalese international, who scored one and assisted the other in his country’s 2-0 African Cup of Nations victory over Tunisia on Sunday, is the Reds’ top-scorer this season with nine goals in the Premier League, and has also laid on four assists for his teammates.

There was a lot of pressure on the 24-year-old after Liverpool spent £34 million on him last year, yet he is actually improving from his Southampton days, and is now an important member of Klopp’s squad.

Mane’s contributions during Philippe Coutinho’s spell on the sidelines indicated what a key player he was to the side, and he’ll certainly be missed throughout this month while he’s away on international duty.

Philippe Coutinho

He’s the man that makes Liverpool tick, and Reds fans would have been thrilled to see Philippe Coutinho return to first team action in the last few days.

The 24-year-old injured his ankle in their 2-0 win over Sunderland back in November, and spent a while on the sidelines before returning in their loss at Southampton in the League Cup last week.

However, although he is still lacking a bit of match sharpness, there’s no denying the Brazilian’s quality, as he scored five goals and assisted five times in his 13 Premier League games prior to injury.

Liverpool play better when Coutinho is in the side, and he’ll be an integral part of what the Reds go on to achieve this season.

Andrea Belotti

With Daniel Sturridge’s future far from certain, Klopp may look to bring in another striker in the winter window.

And one man he should certainly take a look at is Torino’s in-form forward Andrea Belotti.

The 23-year-old, who made a €7.5 million move to the Italian side in 2015, has scored 16 goals in just 21 games for the club this season, including ten in his last 11 matches.

Only Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan has scored more league goals this term than Belotti, who also received his first Italy cap last year in a friendly against France, and then went on to net three goals in five appearances for his country in 2016.

He’s clearly one of the hottest properties in European football at present, and recent reports suggested that Arsenal had failed with a £56 bid for the striker.

Although he will cost a lot of money, Belotti’s goal-scoring record is second to none and, at the age of 23, he has a big future in the game – could that future be at Anfield?
