This is what Man United’s fearsome front three could look like come the end of January

Manchester United saw their six-game winning run in the Premier League halted by Liverpool at Old Trafford last weekend.

Jose Mourinho’s side were held 1-1 by the Reds, but it looked set to be a lot worse when James Milner’s sixth goal of the campaign gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a half time lead.

However, in-form striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic rescued a point for the Red Devils six minutes from time to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 12 matches, but also all but end their slim title hopes.

Mourinho’s men are now 12 points behind Antonio Conte’s Chelsea after they beat Leicester 3-0 to get back to winning ways in the league, so United will now turn their attentions to finishing in the top four, something they failed to do last season.

And, to do that, Mourinho may need to dip into the January transfer window to strengthen his squad for an assault on the top of the division.

Thus, having been linked to several quality players over the last few months, here is what United’s fearsome FRONT THREE could look like come February 1…

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Mourinho was criticised earlier in the season for his management of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the forward’s recent run of form suggests that the Portuguese boss got it right.

The Armenian captain made just one Premier League start prior to West Ham game on November 30, and that lasted just 45 minutes against Manchester City, but has since then been a regular feature in the United side, making nine appearances in all competitions.

And, in that time, the 27-year-old has replicated the same sort of form we all saw at Borussia Dortmund in years gone by, netting three times and laying on three assists in those nine matches.

Mkhitaryan has regularly been one of United’s top performers in the last few months, and he’s likely to be a significant part of Mourinho’s frontline in the second half of the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

After a barren spell which saw him net just once in 11 appearances for United, it’s fair to say that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back in form.

The Swedish striker has scored 13 goals in his last 13 games for the Red Devils, taking his tally to 19 in all competitions since moving to Old Trafford in the summer.

The 35-year-old is the joint highest goal-scorer in the Premier League this season alongside Diego Costa and Harry Kane, and his importance to United is underlined by the fact that their second top-scorer this season is Juan Mata with just seven.

Clearly, Ibrahimovic will be key to whatever United go on to achieve this season.

Antoine Griezmann

Although it seems likely that a deal for French international Antoine Griezmann may not happen until the summer, recent murmurings suggest that a January move isn’t out of the question.

That’s because his manager Diego Simeone has recently said that he is powerless to prevent the Atletico Madrid forward, who has scored 12 goals for the side this season, moving to Manchester, and that he is ‘not surprised’ that his forward is attracting interest.

Griezmann has been in sensational goal-scoring form for the best part of two years now, having netted 32 goals in 54 games for the Spanish side last term, and indeed six for France in their run to the European Championships final last summer.

Add in his 12 goals this time round and the 25-year-old is hot property, and he’s a player which would certainly bolster United’s attacking options, as well as send out a message to their Premier League rivals.
