This is what Manchester City’s fearsome front three could look like come the end of January

Manchester City saw their slim Premier League title hopes all but end with a 4-0 defeat at Everton last weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side went into their clash at Goodison Park ten points adrift of leaders Chelsea following their 3-0 win over Leicester on Saturday, and the Citizens remain that far behind after goals from Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Tom Davies, and Ademola Lookman sealed an easy Everton win.

It means that Guardiola’s men slip to fifth after Arsenal won at Swansea, and it now looks like the Manchester club are in a battle for a top four position as opposed to the title.

City are two points behind Arsene Wenger’s Gunners but also just two points ahead of neighbours Manchester United in sixth, and it doesn’t get any easier for Guardiola’s side, as they face in-form Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Nonetheless, City have made it through to the last 16 of the Champions League and indeed the fourth round of the FA Cup, so they could still salvage some silverware from Guardiola’s debut season in charge of the Citizens.

However, many feel that Guardiola needs to invest in his squad during the winter window to keep them competitive on all fronts in 2017, and they have been linked to a few high-profile names over the last few months.

Thus, here is what City’s fearsome FRONT THREE could look like come February 1…

Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne left Chelsea in 2014 in the interests of his career, and since then he has become one of the most talented attackers in world football.

The Belgian international had a wonderful spell at Wolfsburg, netting 20 goals in 72 games and winning the Bundesliga Player of the Year award for the 2014/15 campaign, before moving to Manchester City in 2015, where he has become even better.

The 25-year-old scored 16 goals in 41 appearances for the Citizens last term and, although he’s not been as prolific this time around, De Bruyne has got more assists in the Premier League (nine) than anybody else thus far.

Add that on to his nine for the club last season, and the Belgian attacker is an extremely important member of Guardiola’s side, and keeping him fit and fresh over the coming months will be integral to their success.

Sergio Aguero

In many people’s eyes, Sergio Aguero has not had his best season at Manchester City this time around, but he has still scored 11 goals in 15 Premier League appearances.

The Argentine international has spent spells out of the side this season due to suspensions, yet the striker has still been doing what he does best when on the pitch – scoring goals.

Aguero has netted 18 goals in just 22 games in all competitions this season, and will always be a genuine goal-threat whenever he leads the City line.

There was speculation about his future after being left out of the starting eleven against Barcelona back in October, but that appears to have faded, and now you’d expect him to once again grab the goals City need to finish in the top four this season.

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal is far from certain given the Chilean’s antics in recent weeks, and the fact that he has yet to sign a new and improved deal at the club.

The 28-year-old was visibly frustrated following their 3-3 draw with Bournemouth at the start of the month, and then was less than impressed at being substituted by manager Arsene Wenger in the win over Swansea last weekend.

Clearly, something is not quite right with Sanchez and the club at present and, given that no new deal has been agreed, speculation will continue to develop surrounding his long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.

City have been linked with the forward and, given that Guardiola worked with Sanchez at Barcelona, he knows him as well as any and may look to reunite with the Chilean at the Etihad.

It would be huge statement of intent from the Manchester club, so don’t be too surprised to see them test Arsenal’s resolve in the coming weeks.
