Three alternatives to Kai Havertz as Chelsea hit transfer stumbling block

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will know he has to improve his defence.

Three alternatives to Kai Havertz as Chelsea hit transfer stumbling block, according to the Daily Star.

After signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech earlier this summer, Chelsea fans were growing even more excited about the possibility of signing Bayer Leverkusen star Havertz.

However, the Daily Star are reporting that Chelsea have been knocked back in their attempt to sign the attacking midfielder with the Bundesliga outfit digging their heels on a jaw-dropping £90million transfer fee.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is unlikely to be able to stump up that fee so the national newspaper as looked at possible alternative attacking midfielders Chelsea could sign this summer.

Julian Draxler

Now at 26-years-old, Draxler is moving into what should be his prime as a footballer. But unfortunately for the Germany international he is not playing regular football at Paris Saint-Germain.

The attacking midfielder could be a shrewd alternative to Havertz with many years of top football still ahead of him and much more experience than his German counterpart.

Marcel Sabitzer

One huge positive about a potential swoop for Sabitzer would be the fact the attacking midfielder formed a frightening partnership with Werner at RB Leipzig.

The Mirror have reported that both North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the midfield talent but Chelsea can offer the player Champions League football.

Jack Grealish

The final player the Mirror believe would be a strong replacement for Havertz, is Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Grealish has been an inspiration for his hometown club, keeping the Villans in the Premier League and capturing the eyes of many clubs with his scintillating performances, most notably Manchester United.
