Three defenders to consider for FPL Gameweek 6 including Liverpool and Aston Villa stars

Three defenders to consider for FPL Gameweek 6 including Liverpool and Aston Villa stars.

With five game weeks of the Fantasy season out the way, it’s now vital that your team kicks on and starts climbing the rankings.

Often overlooked by goal-hungry managers is the defender positions, but these goal-stoppers can earn your team valuable points with clean sheets and with the opportunity to produce a goal or an assist.

Looking ahead to this round of fixtures, there’s some interesting games which are hard to call, meaning their could be great rewards for manager’s who make the right call ahead of this weekend.

Here’s three defender picks we recommend…

Joe Gomez (Liverpool) – £5.4m

Not exactly a bargain price, but Joe Gomez could be a very solid pick for this weekend, and the subsequent weeks to come. With an injury crisis at the back for Liverpool, the England international is almost guaranteed to play 90 minutes of every game if he can keep himself fit. The Reds also face struggling Sheffield United this week, so will be expected to win comfortably and hopefully for you, keep that all-important clean sheet.

Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) – £4.6m

With all the respect to Konsa and the rest of the Villa boys, this would not have been many manager’s automatic pick going into this season.  But the Midlands side have proved all the doubters wrong and made an unbelievable start to the current campaign. Four wins from four and hosting Leeds United tonight they could go top of the league. Players such as Konsa have been inspirational, and with an eye for a goal, we think he’s the man of the moment this Gameweek.

Romain Saiss (Wolverhampton Wanderers) – £5.2m

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been sensational at the back this term, winning their last three Premier League games without conceding a goal. We believe Saiss could be a pick worth considering this week. The lanky defender has been deployed at left wing back at times this season too, which gives him the license to get forward, meaning extra points could be had for goals and assists. Wolves face Newcastle United at home this weekend with many football experts making them favourites to win the game.
