Three January bargains for Man City

With the January transfer window fast approaching Man City will be searching the market for players who can add to their options for the second half of the season.

Life has started reasonably well for City under Pep Guardiola. Whilst they haven’t torn up trees just yet they seem to be adapting well to the Spaniard’s drastic new methods and currently sit in 4th place in the Premier League, having also qualified convincingly from a tricky Champions League group.

The Citizens have it all to play for during the second half of the campaign. They’ll be desperate to reclaim the Premier League title, having missed out in the previous two years. They’ll also be looking to at least match the semi-final Champions League appearance they made last term. To help them with these goals the recruitment team at City will no doubt be identifying players who can add to the side in January.

It’s always worth keeping an eye out for bargain buys during the window, as the money saved in these deals can be shifted to other targets. With that said here’s THREE bargain buys City should be looking to snap up this January.

Thiago Silva

With Vincent Kompany still struggling with injury City desperately look like they need a leader to organise the defensive side of their game.

Thiago Silva would be the ideal addition. The Brazilian matches world-class ability with exceptional experience and leadership qualities. He still possesses good physical attributes and looks to have plenty more years left in him at the top level. Better still, the 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and can likely be purchased for a cut-price fee.

Arjen Robben

Arjen Robben plainly and simply is a match-winner. He grabs goals and assists in clutch moments and is capable of producing something out of nothing.

The Flying Dutchman has been one of the best players on the planet for a number of years now, and still looks to have a number of years left in him at the top level. The 32-year-old has been starting regularly for German giants Bayern Munich, helping himself to an impressive haul of five goals and as many assists in his 12 appearances so far this campaign.

The Dutchman’s contract is up this summer and as a result he is likely to be available for much less than his market value in January. This is certainly an option City should be looking at as they push for domestic and continental glory this term.

Santi Cazorla

Santi Cazorla has blessed the Premier League with his incredible ability for the past four and a half years. But this coming summer the 31-year-old’s contract with Arsenal is up, meaning he could be available for a cut-price fee this January.

The mercurial Spaniard started out behind the striker at Arsenal but has since found a home in one of the central midfield roles, as a deep-lying playmaker. He makes Arsenal tick, and links back to front superbly well.

We here at Shoot! reckon City are missing a player like this, of all their options there is no one who can dictate the tempo of a match from deep, maybe Gundogan and Fernandinho, but they strike us more as exceptional athletes rather than pass-masters.

City should look to capitalise on Cazorla’s contract situation this January and give their team a new dimension in the process.
