Mikel Arteta has a challenging fist managerial job on his hands at Arsenal as he looks to propel them up the table following a disappointing opening 18 matches.

The Gunners are 11th in the table, nine points off the top-four having just won five Premier League games to date.

Now with January looming, the Spanish boss might be looking to add some new faces early on to give his squad a boost.

But who could the Gunners move for? We take a look at three players Arsenal have been linked with over the last few days…

Kevin Volland

Although Arsenal’s problems seem to be more defensively than going forward, they will still be disappointed that they’ve only scored 24 Premier League goals this term.

And, according to Sky Sports, they are aiming to add Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Holland to help with that.

The Germany international has 18 months left on his deal at the Bundesliga side and it’s claimed he has been watched by the North London club’s scouts in recent matches.

Volland has netted 45 times in 133 appearances for Leverkusen since signing from Hoffenheim in 2016.

Dries Mertens

Another forward the Gunners are reportedly considering swooping for is experienced Napoli star Dries Mertens, according to Calciomercato.

The 32-year-old has netted 118 goals in six-and-a-half years in Naples but it’s claimed that he looks set to leave as his contract expires in the summer.

It’s thought the striker could be available for around £8.5million for a player who’s played 86 times for his country.

However, it’s claimed Arsenal would face competition from Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich for Mertens’ signature.

Wilfred Ndidi

A player Premier League fans will know well is that of Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

The 23-year-old has been a key player in Brendan Rodgers side’s impressive season to date which sees them sitting second in the Premier League.

However, according to several reports in England, cited by footballlive.ng, the Nigeria international is a target of Arteta.

It’s even claimed that the Gunners will bid £40million plus Granit Xhaka to try and land the Foxes star.
