Three players Chelsea could sign in the January transfer window

Lampard has operated under a transfer ban since being appointed in the summer.

Chelsea were handed a major boost last week when their transfer ban was lifted, meaning they can now sign players in the January transfer window.

Frank Lampard was unable to recruit in the summer due to the sanction, but has introduced youth and enjoyed a good start to his time in charge.

Saturday’s defeat at Everton was a setback but the Blues are still in the top-four of the Premier League, five points clear of fifth placed Manchester United.

But with January closing in, Frank may feel that adding to their squad in the new year is needed in order to help them maintain their league position as well as challenge in the FA Cup and Champions League.

But who could the Stamford Bridge side move for? We take a look at three players Chelsea have been linked with over the last seven days…

Marquinhos

Lampard’s Chelsea have been linked with a young Brazilian.

Attacking midfielder Marquinhos has been turning heads in Brazil with his performances at youth and now senior level.

The 20-year-old  has scored 13 times and assisted an additional 15 in 32 games for Atletico Mineiro’s Under-20s.

That form saw him awarded a new contract until 2023 and play 13 matches for the club’s first-team.

GloboEsporte.com report that Chelsea have been to scout the attacking midfielder and have been impressed with what they’ve seen.

Fedor Chalov

Chelsea already have Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud in the striking ranks but that hasn’t stopped them from being linked with another in the shape of CSKA Moscow’s Fedor Chalov.

The 21-year-old has followed up 19 goals last term with six goals and five assists so far this season.

And Sky Sports reported prior to the club’s transfer ban being lifted that owner Roman Abramovich is keen on bringing his fellow Russian to Stamford Bridge.

Nathan Ake

A report that’s been around ever since Chelsea sold Nathan Ake to Bournemouth in the summer of 2017 is that the West London side would re-sign him one day.

The Netherlands international has impressed for the Cherries and is one of the most highly-rated centre backs in the Premier League.

Once again, The Telegraph claim that Lampard is considering triggering a £40million buy-back deal for the 24-year-old.

Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori have done well this season but a partnership of Antonio Rudiger, who’s currently injured, and Ake would no doubt improve the Blues.
