Liverpool will look to keep their Premier League top four hopes alive this weekend when they host their rather recent rivals Southampton.
The two clubs have enjoyed a rather bitter relationship, mainly from the point of the fans of the south coast, since the Saints’ return to the return to the top flight with Liverpool constantly picking off the top talent from St. Mary’s.
The two sides have already met three times this season, having faced off in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, with Claude Puel’s men enjoying the better record, two wins and a draw without a goal conceded in all three.
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that his men can make a change to that record at Anfield this weekend, but may need to shake things up in terms of his selection.
With that in mind, here are THREE players Klopp could give a chance to when the Saints visit Merseyside this weekend…
Marko Grujic
There was a lot of excitement surrounding the Serbian midfielder when he arrived at Liverpool last summer, however, injury has stunted his progress this season.
With Liverpool stalwart Lucas moving on this summer Klopp should use every chance to get Grujic comfortable in the side.
Saints playmaker and Grujic’s international teammate, Dusan Tadic, has been speaking very highly of the 21-year-old in recent weeks.
Daniel Sturridge
The former Manchester City and Chelsea striker has had a rough time at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp. Having been one of the stars of the show under Brendan Rodgers and alongside Luis Suarez, Sturridge has fallen down the pecking order since Klopp’s arrival due to differing factors.
With the 27-year-old, who has scored four goals in ten appearances against the Saints, looking to salvage his Anfield career, he’ll be looking to put in a big performance where he can.
Ragnar Klavan
The centre-half, who arrived at Anfield at the start of the season, has impressed so far and made a return from injury off the bench against Watford.
The Liverpool defence have been uneasy all season long and the return of Klavan could bring a little more confidence to the side which has already lost twice to the Saints this season.
