Three players Manchester City could sign in the January transfer window

Pep Guaridola hasn't been vocal about potential summer signings.

After winning back-to-back Premier League titles, Manchester City find themselves with a mountain to climb if they are to make it three in a row.

The Citizens find themselves 11 points adrift of runaway leaders Liverpool with just 15 matches played.

The exit of Vincent Kompany and injury to Aymeric Laporte seems to have had a big impact on Pep Guardiola’s side who have struggled defensively.

Now with January not too far away, the champions may feel that they have to dip into the market if they are to be able to compete at the back end of various competitions.

But who could the Etihad side move for? We take a look at three players City have been linked with over the last seven days…

Lautaro Martinez

The Inter Milan forward is one of the form players in Europe this term having registered three assists and 13 goals in 19 matches.

Aged 22, Martinez signed for the San Siro side from Racing Club in the summer of 2018 and has adapted well in Italy.

The Argentina international’s performances have seen Football Italia link him with a move to Man City.

It’s claimed that the champions are considering him as a long-term replacement for fellow countryman Sergio Aguero.

Ousmane Dembele

Another 22-year-old this time in the shape of World Cup winner Ousmane Dembele.

It’s fair to say that the France international’s move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona in 2018 hasn’t really gone to plan.

Despite showing flashes of brilliance, the winger has not been able to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI.

And with Leroy Sane linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Eldesmarque report that Dembele’s agent has met with City about a possible move to the Etihad.

Liam Smith

A player you probably wouldn’t have heard of yet but one that has impressed in the youth ranks at Kilmarnock.

At just 16, The Scottish Sun report that Manchester City have won the race to sign the winger ahead of Scottish giants Rangers.

It’s claimed that Smith would stay at Killie, who will receive just a £200,000 training compensation fee, for the rest of the season.

Only time will tell if the left-sided attacker has what it takes to blossom into a first-team regular at the Etihad.
