Three players Manchester City could sign in the January transfer window

Pep's city are on a roll.

After winning back-to-back Premier League titles, Manchester City find themselves with a mountain to climb if they are to make it three in a row.

After drawing 2-2 at Newcastle United on Saturday, the Citizens find themselves 11 points adrift of runaway leaders Liverpool with just 14 matches played.

The exit of Vincent Kompany and injury to Aymeric Laporte seems to have had a big impact on Pep Guardiola’s side with the Frenchman imperious last term.

Now with January just a month away, the champions may feel that they have to dip into the market if they are to be able to compete at the back end of various competitions.

But who could the Etihad side move for? We take a look at three players City have been linked with over the last seven days…

Caglar Soyuncu

This time last season not even Leicester fans could tell you much about Caglar Soyuncu, who found himself behind Wes Morgan, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in the pecking order at the King Power.

But this term has seen the Turkey international’s fortunes turn around at the Foxes as he’s impressed massively alongside Evans in the heart of defence.

Comfortable on the ball and happy to do the ugly part of the game, the 23-year-old’s performances have been catching the eye of a number of clubs.

One of those is, according to The Sunday Times, is believed to be City who are looking for a long-term replacement for Kompany.

Nicolas De La Cruz

Nicolas De La Cruz is turning heads in South America with his performances for River Plate.

The 22-year-old, who helped the Argentinian side reach the Copa Libertadores earlier this month, is an attacking midfielder who can play in the middle or on either flank.

A former Uruguayan U20 international, De La Cruz is believed to have a buy-out clause of £18.75million.

And Marca report that City boss Pep Guardiola is keen on adding him to his talented squad at the Etihad.

Sandro Tonali

There’s not many young players across Europe who have made the strides that Sandro Tonali has over the past couple of years.

The 19-year-old only made his professional debut in August 2017 but has since helped his club Brescia earn promotion to Serie A and keep them in the division.

A midfielder with real quality on the ball, Tonali has also earned his first senior caps for Italy and has attracted the interest of some of Europe’s major club sides.

One of those is claimed to be Man City, with Fichajes reporting that they are admirers of the talented teenager.
