Three players Manchester United could sign in the January transfer window

Solskjaer's Manchester United are struggling for goals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his Manchester United side have had a disappointing campaign to date despite some better recent results.

The Red Devils sit sixth in the Premier League, four points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea who occupy the final Champions League place.

So with January closing in, the Norwegian boss will have one-eye on the transfer window and players he could possibly bring in.

But who could Ole move for? We take a look at three players United have been linked with over the last seven days…

Lautaro Martinez

The Inter Milan forward is one of the form players in Europe this term having registered 13 goals for the Serie A side.

Now the Argentina international’s performances have seen him strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, according to the Mirror.

The 22-year-old has the creativity and talent which would no doubt add to the Red Devils’ attacking line-up, but whether they could meet Inter’s asking price in January remains to be seen.

Leandro Paredes

In the same report by the Mirror, United are also thought to be interested in recruiting Martinez’s fellow Argentinian, Leandro Paredes.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder only signed for the French champions from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2019 but has started just five league matches this term.

With 24 caps for his country, Paredes would bolster Solskjaer’s midfield option but with three-and-a-half years left on his contract they’d have to pay a hefty fee.

Dries Mertens

A more recent name to be linked with Manchester United is that of Belgium striker Dries Mertens, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The 32-year-old’s deal expires at the end of the season meaning he could technically sign a pre-contract agreement with the Red Devils in January.

Mertens, who has scored 118 times in 300 matches for Napoli has a host of experience at the top level and would be a good free signing for Solskjaer – if a deal were to materialise.
