Three players Tottenham Hotspur could sign in the January transfer window

Things are looking up for Tottenham Hotspur fans after Jose Mourinho started his tenure as manager with three wins in a row.

The latest – a 3-2 victory over Bournemouth – means Spurs are now six points rather than 12 adrift of the top-four.

Despite that, the North London club still face a battle on their hands to secure Champions League football last term.

With January just a month away, the newly self-labelled ‘Humble One’ will have one eye on the upcoming transfer window.

But who could the Portuguese boss move for? We take a look at three players Spurs have been linked with over the last week…

Nemanja Matic

Certain things go together – fish & chips, cheese and picked, Ant & Dec, Jose Mourinho and Nemanja Matic.

The Portuguese coach has signed the Serbian midfielder for both Chelsea and Manchester United in the past.

Now the Express report that Mourinho could now try and bring the experienced midfielder to Spurs.

Matic, 31, has lost his place in the United side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and seems surplus to requirements.

And although Spurs have the likes of Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko who can play as a defensive midfielder, Mourinho may want to add more depth to that position.

Memphis Depay

A player who knows what the Premier League is all about is Dutch forward and former Manchester United man Memphis Depay.

The 25-year-old spent 18 months with the Red Devils but he struggled to show his true talent at Old Trafford.

Six of those months were spent under the management of Jose Mourinho and The Sun claim that he could be reunited with the player at Spurs in a £50million deal.

Depay has rejuvenated his career at Lyon since leaving United, scoring 50 times in 130 in all competitions for the French side.

Lorenzo Pellegrini

Since returning to the capital following a two-year spell with Sassuolo, Lorenzo Pellegrini has become a key member of AS Roma’s squad.

The 23-year-old, who is comfortable at playing as a number 4, 8 or 10, has made 12 appearances in all competitions for his club this term.

As well as earning regular senior caps for Italy, the midfielder’s performances have also – according to Sport Witness – have attracted interest from Tottenham.

However, Mourinho may have to move quickly as it’s claimed Manchester United, Juventus and Inter Milan are also interested in the player whose release clause is thought to be £27.5million.
