Aston Villa’s away trip against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon (4:00pm) is the sides’ first FA Cup meeting since 1992.

In their last meeting in this competition, Villa eliminated Spurs in a third round replay thanks to a Dwight Yorke goal.

Last season, the Villans crashed out of the competition in the fourth round at the hands of Manchester City.

However, the 2015 competition proved more successful for the Lions as they reached the semi-finals.

Steve Bruce’s side have previously won the competition seven times. The last time they lifted the trophy was in 1957.

After their relegation from the Premier League in May, Villa are currently 12th in the Championship table and are only seven points adrift of the play off places.

Aston Villa have only won once in their last 16 fixtures against the Lilywhites, and they will definitely be looking to rectify this on Sunday.

Shoot! looks at THREE reasons why the Midlands side will leave north London with their name firmly in the fourth round draw.

Adomah’s creativity

The Ghanaian midfielder has already set up five goals in the Championship this season.

Manager Bruce will be ecstatic at the news that his creative winger will not be travelling to AFCON with the Ghana squad.

If he is allowed to run riot on Sunday, Tottenham may have a serious problem on their hands.

Could Adomah be Villa’s newest cup hero?

Sam Johnstone

The 23-year-old announced on Thursday that he has joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

Johnstone has had over 30 caps for England at youth level and will be itching to play as much first team football as physically possible during his time in the Midlands.

Coming from regular training with the likes of David de Gea, Johnstone will be oozing with experience from some of the biggest names in football.

With Tottenham being a very free-scoring side in recent weeks, can Johnstone’s debut be enough to deny Spurs from progressing in the competition?

4-5-1

The Championship side have operated in a number of formations this season.

The only one of these formations that they have not lost in is the 4-5-1. With Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Kodjia away on international duty, the one man attack consisting of either Gabriel Agbonlahor or Ross McCormack as a lone striker is a system that manager Bruce should consider.

Tottenham may field a rotated side to give their fringe players some long awaited to game time.

If this is the case, Villa may be able to make the most of the opportunity and by using a successfully proven formation; they may be able to do just that.
