Three reasons why Peterborough will knock Chelsea out of the FA Cup

Peterborough United travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon (3:00pm kick off) aiming to beat Chelsea for the first time ever in the club’s history.

The two teams have only faced each other twice before. Chelsea have won both of the FA Cup clashes in 1965 and 2001; the Blues scored five times in each of the two meetings.

Last season, The Posh were knocked out of the competition via a penalty shootout in a fourth round replay by West Bromwich Albion.

A win for Peterborough would see them reach the same stage that they managed to get to last season.

The Posh are currently 8th in the League One table, just two points behind the play off places. Their hosts are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Shoot! looks at THREE reasons why Peterborough will pick up their first ever victory over seven time FA Cup winners Chelsea at the weekend…

The streak ended

Chelsea’s 13 match league winning streak came to an end against rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.

The camp’s mood will be the poorest it’s been since their defeat to Arsenal in September.

Grant McCann’s side will want to make the most of any signs of unrest or lack of morale on Sunday.

Peterborough will be thanking both Tottenham and Dele Alli for handing Chelsea a long awaited league defeat.

A win for the Posh would be the start of a real downward spiral for the Premier League leaders.

Failed rotation

Antonio Conte has so far struggled in his previous attempts to rotate his side.

The Blues crashed out of the EFL Cup to West Ham United in the fourth round after Conte made six changes to his side.

The Italian manager has decided against making changes to his side recently as he has commonly stuck to a regular starting 11.

Peterborough can easily take advantage of a changed team that will be lacking both fitness and match sharpness, which could see them through to the fourth round draw.

The Posh’s form

The visitors head to London in very good form.

The Posh have not lost a game in all competitions since November, an unbeaten run that has so far lasted seven matches.

McCann’s men will be aiming to make it eight without defeat in west London on Sunday.

A combination of form, risky rotation and bad Blues morale could see the Posh pull off a superb victory.
